We were with Alliance & Leicester for many years, no problems at all , when we needed to contact them by phone , again no problems,UK call centre who dealt with the problem efficiently.Then..Santander arrived and took over. What a nightmare!!!!!. When you have reason to call them , the staff don't seem to have a clue what they are talking about, pass you round and round the call centres, some of which appear to be in other countries which adds to the confusuion. We had one mess up after another , and could not speak to anybody knowlegdable to sort things out( I wont bore you with all the deatils). We have finally moved both current accounts to First Direct...what a breath of fresh air, really esay to swith, and if you need to phone them , a human english speaking person answers straight away and they are extremly knowledgable of their operation and very helpful. I no longer have the phobia around' I need to phone the bank...I can't face it'. If we all left Santander , maybe they might actually do something to improve their customer service
