“Great idea that does not work”

written by on 29/02/2012

Hi, this dryer has a fab idea with the water collection unit on the door. You can see how much water is in the tank, it is easy to pick up and empty the water out, it also of reminds you to empty the tank and you do not get back issues bending down to the tank like on other dryers.
However: The tank on the door has given us problems. After a month of use I noticed water on the bottom of the door and on to the floor. I thought it was something with the water missing the tank, no.... After some study I could see cracks in the bottom of the tank. These cracks became more crack and bigger over the following weeks.
I reported this to Comet, who sent me another tank. Sadly after 6 weeks I have today seen another crack in the tank appearing in the same area. I suspect that the plastic on this unit can stand the heat from the dryer.
I have read elsewhere with other people having issues with this design. Users are correct in the respect that the fluff does hang around the door and it does end up on other clothing. For example drying red school sweat shirts, we end up with red fluff on many other items.
As I am writing this review, I am on hold with customer service again at Comet as we have a crack again in the same place as the first one.
Comet is going to send us another tank; however I suspect that this one will also go the same way as the last two. I think that we will have to do something else here.
It is so sad that this unit has to be this way. The previous Hoover dryers had a silly design as you have to pull the front bottom cover off to get to the tank, which I suspect would drive anyone mad after a few weeks. So you think that with this design Hoover may have got it right. Well almost. Hoover need to seriously come up with a design that will work for us. Pull a tank out of the top of a dryer is OK, we have that on a previous make.
I will be writing to Hoover direct on this issue with all of the pictures. I may do a little youtube on it also so that other users are made aware of these issues.
