My experience with GVI in 2009 has been one I will never forget, not only was it a dream that became a reality to go to the Amazon rainforest, it opened by eyes to the innate beauty of the wilderness that so desperately needs conserving.
My time in the Ecuadorian Amazon was once a distant dream from a young age, but from the first night in the jungle where we were welcomed with an extreme downpour (in true rainforest style) and encountered a giant earthworm by the toilets, I fell in love with the jungle and its truly awe-inspiring sights and sounds. There and then, I knew I’d embarked on one of the most exciting adventures of my life, with an eagerness to help in conservation of amphibians, birds, butterflies and every wonderful thing I never knew existed, which has no doubt enforced my hunger to continue in this field of wildlife and environmental preservation in studying Zoology at University at present.
I made some lifelong friends, and got the opportunity to join in with something to be proud of, the staff were friendly and enthusiastic, it was easy to understand why! And so for that I thank GVI for giving me such a memorable experience.
