WLD copy profiles across a multitude of sites to make it look like they have far more members that they actually have. As a result you get the ludicrous situation where attractive people appear on dating sites for ugly people, forty somethings appear on dating sites for people over sixty and women who state that they're not looking for sex appear on adult dating sites. If you mention this in your profile or in a message to another member your profile or message will be rejected on the grounds that you're not allowed to include details of your membership in such communications. There is nothing in the terms and conditions forbidding this though.
If you take out a subscription for say three months you may think that you'll just pay three monthas subscription and that's the end of it. In fact your debit or credit card will be billed every three months. You can't cancel your subscription online, but have to phone. If you cancel your subscription, cancellation is efective immediately and you'll lose however much of your three months is left. You have to remember to cancel just before the three months is up. Of course WLD hope you'll forget to do this. Even if you cancel your subscription, you may still be billed. Best advice is to pay for a subscription using a top up type debit card and make sure there's no money on it after you've paid your initial subscription.
Many of the profiles, winks and mesages are probably fakes. Who in their right mind would send an email to a member with no picture, no profile and living hundreds of miles away? They just want you to take out a subscription in order to read the message. So long as they get your money they don't care.
Profile of lapsed members aren't deleted. Once again this is to make it look like they have more members than they actually do. If you message a lapsed member then obviously you're very unlikely to get a reply.
If you join up use a disposable email address. Then if you start getting spam you can just delete it.
On the whole online dating is a waste of time and money. The good old marriage bureaux and introduction agencies were much better, but online dating has put them out of business.
I feel much better after writing this :-)
