“My views on the Findmypast UK website.”

Written on: 22/02/2012 by Adolygu1 (1 review written)

Pros - relatively easy to use and to copy information. A reasonable range of records. Images are usually clear and easy to enlarge etc.
Useful to be able to submit corrections easily and for the data to be altered quite quickly.
Cost is reasonable and a reduction is available on renewal.

Cons - times out quite quickly so have to sign in again.
Searching for common names e.g. John Davies is much more difficult than with Ancestry because search options are limited. Can't usually search without a surname even with highly unusual firstnames.
The parish collection is particularly useful but so often I enter a name to be told there are compatible entries - but when I click on the link it says that there no entries appear. What's that about?
It is a great improvement to be able to enter County AND registration district for births, marriages and deaths 1837 - 2005 but why does the website automatically enter 2006 for the endpoint for marriages so a message saying 'must be between 1837 and 2005' is flashed up?
