Last year I bought a female guinea pig from pets at home and at first she seemed very healthy but I soon realised she was putting on weight on her sides so took her to my local pet shop to be told she was pregnat! We phoned the store and they seemed completely not bothered by it and all they offered us was a free bag of hay. My guinea pig ended up having two girls so I kept them both. Recently the mum and babies have developed cancerous lumps which we've been told by the vets could be due to being inbred. I thought my guinea pig might have been a one time mistake but when i was in the store last week I was watching the guinea pigs and could clearly see there was atleast 4 girls in with the males. The males purring around all the female ones and trying to get on tp of them. This was also causing visious fights between the males who were interested in the same female. The pets are clearly sexed by young, inexperienced staff because when i bought a chinese dwarf hamster from there the young boy serving me told me it was a boy only for me to find out it was actually a girl, luckily I wasnt putting it with another hamster, I dont even remember seeing him check. I would never purchase another pet from the store after seeing their lack of care or respect for their animals and I wouldn't advise anyone else to.
