Malaga has an ancient centre, full of character, within a modern bustling city.
Hotels are generally within easy walking distance of the heart of the city, and there are some fantastic deals - if you shop around.
Malaga is making the most of it's Picasso connection (the artist was born here)and the new Picasso Gallery is a real attraction for art lovers.
The hilltop Gibralfaro castle is well worth the steep walk, and there are unequalled views over the city and port from the cafe at the top !
Once back in the heart of the city there are innumerable bars and restaurants for that essential break between museums, churches and galleries.
And with temperatures in the 20's in January, Malaga takes some beating for a winter city break.
Get there before the rest of Europe discovers it !
