In Swintons T&C under "Monthly payments by direct debit" they state:
"In the eleventh month, a further payment of the same amount is taken as a returnable deposit against next year’s renewal. This money will be held by us on your behalf and used against your renewal premium. This eleventh monthly payment will often be processed before you have confirmed that you wish to renew. Please do not treat our taking of this payment as renewal of your policy, it is simply a pre-renewal advance payment. If your policy is not renewed, this payment will be refunded to you."
I note they don't say WHEN it will be refunded. Several phone calls to Swintons telling them that the insurance was not being renewed with them and asking for return of the "pre-renewal advance payment" have resulted in nothing but fobbing off with pitiful excuses. "We tried to pay it into your bank but they refused it". Has anyone ever experienced a bank refusing to accept money INTO their account?
This firm are money grabbers of the worst kind, and don't get me started about the constant phone calls trying to sell other insurance products...
I did not want to give them any score for Customer Service, but your website insists that I give them at least one star.
