As I am moving abroad to live and still had 6 months left on my Saga home contents insurance I telephoned them to cancel the policy. I was told that I would receive an email with the details of the cancellation. My email address was not checked and as I did not receive an email I can only imagine that it was sent to a cancelled address. I did receive a letter; unfortunately it was sent to my old address; fortunately I had set up redirection with Royal Mail. The letter told me that I owed them over £15 to cancel the policy!
I have paid the money making sure that the girl on the phone at Saga was aware of my annoyance at this charge. I asked her to pass on my complaint, whether she did I do not know. Had I not been emigrating I would have put up more of a fight about the money.
So to any one who also has to cancel their policy I would like to make them fully aware that there is a charge of £35 to cancel. It would have been cheaper for me to just let the policy run to the end and then not bothered to renew.
