“General review”

written by on 01/01/2012

I have been with CA for just over a year now. The account did take too long to setup - about 4-5 weeks, but the same thing happened when I also opened a Coop bank account. However, they were very helpful when I telephoned them.

Their customer service has to be experienced, it is excellent. They are open until 11pm every day, not bad for business banking. I can easily transfer large sums of money from my bank to another bank - without problem. You have about £20k transfer limit per day electonically, but can transfer large amounts by telephone. They also answer the telephone quickly and you do not need to be passed to other operators - the person who answers sorts your transaction or queries.

The only problem I have experiences is their clearing system and slow payment system, although the slow payment system is being upgraded juring Review on CA Businessa account:

Jan 2012, so not a problem with that. The clearing system goes via RBS for international transactions (telegraphic transfers). CA has a non standard way for your customers to send you money - this creates confusion and can be a real pain, as ayments get rejected if the customer does not fill in the payment form correctly. I wouls not recomend CA for anybody that has lots of international payments from lots of customers - this will cause issues. Apart from this, I can not fault them for my needs.

The only other issue, is CA have no high street banks, so you have to use RBS to pay cash into. This can prove expensive, as they charge you a percentage to pay cash in. I'm not sure if you get a monthly free amount - so you should confirm yourself.

Paying in cheques is really easy. They supply you with post paid envelopes to send cheques to them. Or you can use RBS high street banks.

CA banking gives free banking if you keep £5000 balance. If you go under this, then you get charged a similar charge to high street banks. You can also have USD and EUR bank accounts. This is good if you visit the US or Europe, as you can use the bank cards abroard using the correct currency, so no currency conversion fee. I think you can also use the card as a debit card abroard without transaction fee - but check this yourself to confirm.
