I opened two accounts with santander, a business account and a personal account.
The business account is free and that is why I opened it, however the lack of features means that I would recommend paying to open a proper account. They won't let you use the counter at all so no putting cash in, the on street cash machines wpnt give you a pay in envelope for business accounts and the bank gave me slips but no envelopes, not sure how to sort this as the counter wont talk about business accounts.
The personal account has such muddled security that you will constantly be locked out, and the only way back in is to phone them up and get them to post out two letters with numbers to input. honestly it sounds stupid but have you ever been seriously inconvenienced by paypal or amazon or ebay, probably not, with this lot it is the norm.
Fraud seems common, my account was hacked and money taken, when I noticed something and phoned I was told everything was fine, then all my cheques bounced. Now I am locked out again because someone transfered money into ( not out of) my account and the fraud team locked my account and the depositers, I can't unlock my account until he phones the bank, all my cheques have bounced, despite my having plenty of money. on top of which they do this without contacting you.
expect internet banking that is unusable, an account that freezes without notice and is very hard to fix, and talking to anyone will leave you at best exasperated if not totally furious. An arrogant, incompetant mickey mouse outfit.
