“Don't waste your time/money”

written by on 02/12/2011

I'm just going to give you some bullet points on my experience with these guys (based on around 5 training sessions with them). I chose them due to the convenient location of the school in central London. Be smart like me and do some research on other schools no matter how far they are from you; its all worth it and you will save money. I recommend 1 stop instruction in Ilford. Kabal and Pepsi are amazing! I love these guys! and I'm sure you will too!.
So...here is what Metropolis is about:
- I don't know who these guys think they are (I have a respect for outlaw bikers, but these guys have the same attitude only they cannot afford to have it...the ones I met are former couriers; come on...not disrespect for couriers)
- As a result is very uncomfortable...they come across as extremelly moody
- Not appropiate: talking about their last night's drinking and how hungover they were...that's why they give you million breaks (for them to eat their bacon roll)making you loose concentration on training. They don't give a s***; seriously. On the other hand I trained with 1stopinstruction and there were no long breaks involved; only 5 mts for a drink and every time off the road they talk about theory/ techniques stuff to help you (and in fact you don't miss the breaks as you see the progress and the conversion on paid's fee). Believe me, this works so much better coz you don't loose focus at all (this is the training I received from them that made me pass module 1). In addition to it, one of the instructors I had once at Metropolis was very flirty (talking about his personal life etc...which was weird/ not appropiate and not was you are there for)
- Unsafe speed manouvers: They will take you to a quite road to practice the emergency stop/ swerve. Which is in the first place illegal(due to the speed requirements for the exercise) and secondly dangerous ( I'm lucky I didn't hit any of those serious kerbs). They also like to show off their skills rather than providing proper training.
- No one to one sessions offered: You have to book the whole course again. If you book a retake test you will drive all the way to the test center and as mentioned before they give you a short training on a quite road (illegal) and you are lucky if you are on your own (normally they will have other students)when I passed my mod 1 with 1stop I only had another student with me. On the other hand 1stopinstruction offers proper one to ones as they have their own facility to practice module 1 (with cones and everything). With Metropolis, they don't own any facility; and for you to simulate the real test on the training center you have to book the whole course again and practice is limited on site as you have to share with other schools and instructors.
- When you book any sort of course, they will take full fee; on 1stop they take a deposit and then the day of the course/ test you pay the remaining balance.

To recap, Metropolis is not what you are looking for if you are aiming to pass your DAS; its probably not the trainers's fault but the way they are treated by the school or the way they are told to operate (they probably not happy individuals); however, not my or anyone's problem. As an experienced student of Metropolis I advice you to do your research on other schools and don't feel lazy to go to schools based on London's suburban areas; where they are not so full of them and are passionate about what they do. I hope my experience helps you to not to make the same mistakes I did by keep going to them for 5 times. There is much more out there! just do your research!
In conclusion, you can't compare a business owned by an individual (as 1stop)who grows and grows every day and who really cares for the student's results and has a familiar/ down to earth and proffesional approach to a big corporation as Metropolis.
I'am seriously writing this review in order to help other students so Metropolis don't make them give up on their desire to ride a motorcycle. After failing module 1 a couple of times they said to me: "Maybe you should consider whether this is for you or not and continue riding your 125cc" (which is not very proffesional and not what you expect what to be told) Now I say to them: I already passed mu module 1 with 1stop thanks to the help of proper instructors!
