“Heart attack for nothing”

Written on: 07/10/2011

I've been on birth control for quite a while, and since the last year or so, the intensity of my period started diminishing up until the point I got no period at all anymore during my last stop week. Now, having had the diminishing trend and knowing that I had taken my bc pills correctly, I was not particularly worried that I was pregnant, but still, it haunted me a little and I figured I'd buy some pregnancy tests to check and ease my mind (because I'm not wanting to get pregnant).

I bought a Predictor duo pack, and not really being alarmed, I delayed the first test until right before bedtime. Horror oh horror, I immediately got a light pink line in the test area, with the instruction leaflet informing me that even the lightest line is an indication of pregnancy. Refusing to believe this shocking news, I told myself to do the second one right after waking up in the morning, which usually gives a more accurate test anyway. Thankfully, this morning test came out negative, but with one positive and one negative test, I actually became more anxious than I had been before.

I figured I'd only find peace with a blood test, which I got 3 days later. It came out negative.

So long story short: my experience with Predictor isn't exactly great. I read a lot of complaints online that it isn't sensitive enough (pregnant women getting a neg result etc), so at first point that freaked me out even more. But no, false positives are very possible too ladies! So for those women out there not aiming to get pregnant just yet and getting a light positive, don't freak out just yet! Go to the doctor's for a blood test.

To be fair: I did use a different 'measuring technique' with both tests. The false positive I got after peeing on the thing. The correct negative after peeing in a cup and immediately testing it. Normally both methods should be fine, but perhaps I have a wrong peeing technique ;)

Take care!
