The original issue was that When I was 18 I took out a student bank account with HSBC, having graduated when I was 21, I owed the bank a £1,350 overdraft. I was having difficulty in paying this back as I didn’t get a job straight away, and after a few months my mum paid a lump sum of £600 to clear the debt, this was accepted and part settled. I am now doing another degree and was hoping to upgrade my Lloyds account to a student account, however discrepancies appeared on my credit rating history, stating that I had a debt to clear, but as already stated that debt was settled.
I contacted the call center at HSBC In August 2011 who after speaking to metropolitan debt collectors (whom the debt was passed to) Advised that the debt was part settled in April 2008, however there had been poor communication from them to HSBC (they didn’t inform HSBC that the money had been part settled) I was advised to write a letter stating the situation to the HSBC compliance department in Birmingham (was given the address) and ask for my credit rating to be changed from owing a debt to ‘part settlement’. The advisor told me to send it recorded delivery and that I would hear from HSBC within 14 days, it has been weeks and I haven’t had any letters or calls, I have emailed HSBC everyday for the last week to get this resolved due to struggling a huge hardship which could easily be resolved by getting an overdraft from my lloyds account, but cant due to it showing the debt.
It is so frustrating, and would advise to never ever use this bank, they chase and hound you when you owe them money but when its the other way round they completely ignore you!!
