“Wondered where Rutger Hauer went? He's back and deadly”

written by reviewkitten on 13/09/2011

I had not heard anything about Hobo with a Shotgun. My bf simply asked if it could be added to our list of films on Blockbuster. I duly obliged thinking that it sounded terrible. When it arrived we sat down and watched.

Brilliant. Utterly brilliant. I haven't seen a film with Rutger Hauer for so long this made me wonder why as he's still a flawless actor.

Hauer is the hobo with a shotgun who has just plain had enough of the rotten town he has arrived in. Everything is dark and horrific with gangs terrorising the good folk of Hope Town.

A great film to watch. It is stylised like a later 70s early 80s movie with nods to The Warriors in both characters and the score. There are even little in jokes about films like Risky Business (one shot in particular). It even has the kid from Small Soldiers as a really nasty gang member.

If you liked Machete and Planet Terror then this is a must see. If you hate films with large amounts of gore and violence then steer clear.
