“A credit to traditional bricks 'n' mortar retail”

written by paulbradley25 on 02/09/2011

My parents bought me my first proper bike - a Raleigh Commando - from the Bramhall Lane branch in the 70s so it is great to see that JE James still remains as a credit to bricks and mortar retail. Their service is second to none which boils down to knowledgeable staff who are friendly and interested in selling you the right product within your budget. We only wanted to spend £250-£300 on a bike for my wife and were impressed at the way we were dealt with. Obviously with the web I checked online and also called half a dozen retailers close to where we live. I was shocked at how disinterested they were and how lacking in basic knowledge they were. Evans pointed me to their website but could not recommend one brand or type over the other. Another shop said they had bikes starting at £300 but made no effort to upsell. JE James' competitors must be doing really well if this is how they deal with sales enquiries but I very much doubt this is the case as both the Chesterfield and Bramhall Lane branches, that we visited on Saturday, were packed. In the end we ordered online for convenience as they deliver free of charge (we live in Manchester) but I would recommend visiting one of their stores.
