“DON'T USE PAYPAL!”

I used the Evans website to buy a Ridgeback Scoot balance bike as a birthday present for my neice. I had it shipped to store in Thurrock as I've bought my own bike there and have found them to be extremely helpful. I paid by Paypal.

I was contacted by the store a few days later to say that the bike had arrived, but that it had been damaged in transit. I went to take a look at it and found it had some chips on the forks that went right down to the metal. It was the only one left in that colour, and next stock delivery was too late, so I had no choice but to take it. I was offered a discount of 14.99 which I gratefully accepted. As I had paid by Paypal, I could only be refunded to my paypal account by Evans head office. This was arranged by the Thurrock staff and I was advised to wait 3-5 workings days for it to be credited to my account. 2 weeks later, still no refund.

I called Thurrock to query it. They spoke with head office to re-arrange the refund and advised me that they were having 'problems' with Paypal. Again I waited, and waited. 2 weeks later, still no refund.

Hopefully sorted today as head office have refunded to my debit card, but I've been told to wait another 3-5 days for that refund too. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

All in all, I've got a damaged, yet to be discounted bike. The staff at Thurrock branch have been very helpful, but the website / Paypal / Store relationship has just made things unnecessarily difficult. Paypal worked fine for Evans when taking my cash, not so good when giving some back... I will shop with Evans again, but I won't be using Paypal.
