The recruitment consultant will try to rip you off with the lowest rate possible. The mark up rate at this branch is usually between 80-90%.
If you ask for a pay rise, the consultant will ignore you and not get back to your request. If you phone, they will always be 'on the phone' and not get back to you.
After an interview I had at a venue, their HR asked me the minimum rate I would accept. When I got the job, the Office Angels consultant told me that they had already agreed the rate with the client. I disagreed. She told me that I should be grateful for the job because it was 'great experience'. She told she would go back to the client and discuss it with them. When I called and e-mailed her to find out the result, was busy on the phone and could not speak. When I emailed her, telling her I would not accept the job, she promptly replied and put me on the minimum rate, and asked me not to discuss it with HR. Her mark up rate was 90%.
It is dishonest. They are charming and friendly to the clients and earn a lot of money, and will attempt to screw you over as much as possible, and not give you a living wage.
Not all recruitment consultants and agencies are like this nor the mark-up so high. Firms should check what the temp worker is getting from the agency to help prevent temp workers getting screwed.
