I sold a laptop on eBay and the buyer paid. After I had the money in my bank account I agreed to meet the buyer and hand the product over to save on postage costs. The next day it turned out that the laptop was bought from a hacked eBay account and paid for from a hacked PayPal account. The real owner of the accounts rang me and explained that her account had been compromised. PayPal have reversed the money and told me unless I settle the negative balance in my account they will send debt collectors. This is despite arranging to collect the item through eBay messaging and the money being cleared into my account. The MET police say I am not the victim and that PayPal need to report this, PayPal say it's my fault! Apparently if you sell an item through PayPal you are required to wait 180 days before handing the item over to prevent a claim back which seems absurd!
It seems PayPal tend to always side with the buyer to prevent a fight from the buyers credit card company.
I am currently seeking legal advice to try and get this money back, £600 is a lot to lose with no product to sell.
