In 2006 we had movement of floor slab in Bungalow. We made a claim as some doors would not close and cracks had appeared. Assessors found that 2 large trees had spread their roots under bungalow and dried out the internal foundations finding roots in borehole. They recommended removal of trees and stated that the floor slab should return to normal. Saga "kindly" paid for removal of trees but rejected any claim for internal repairs as "The external walls were not damaged". I did not have to pay £1000 excess for subsidence and got no help with repairs. So did I have subsidence??
The assessors were correct and the doors soon closed again and cracks closed. We made minor repairs ( a Pack of Polyfilla).
Since then our premium has increased by about £200 a year until this year it was £1003.
I then had my own structural survey done and this said that there was now no sign of internal or external damage and the original assessors had been quite correct.
Saga would not even look at the report let alone consider it. Needless to say I have now searched around for alternatives which has not been easy with a general "We don't take new business with subsidence. even if you can show there is now no problem. I should have lied!!!
I have now a quote for £346, no excess for subsidence, with a couple of others possible.
I had trusted Saga for quite a number of years particularly as they were "champions for the over 50's. I feel completely conned.
