“Incompetence, mistruths, and insulting”

written by on 12/07/2011

Signed up on the Reed site and applied for 2 jobs, later that same day I was asked to take an online typing test (horrible software) and was subsequently offered the job. I went to an induction and took along my passport, and a bank statement. All was fine, I had several confirmation emails and a verbal confirmation too. Then it all went downhill:

One Monday morning at 9.30am my phone rang for 5 seconds, then a text message arrived, telling me to call the agency urgently. I called them and the woman was very rude telling me that I needed to fill in an application form that they'd sent me on Friday otherwise they'd withdraw the job offer. I hadn't received any email on Friday, she was insistent and told me to check again as email doesn't always arrive immediately (lol) Turns out she'd sent it 30 seconds after the initial phone-call!

Then they started harassing one of my referees, calling him at stupid hours, and then somehow managing to give him 3 wrong email addresses for reference purposes. The first one bounced, the 2nd and 3rd ones went to unattended mailboxes. After that he got another phonecall basically saying he was holding up my employment and that he should just email in the reference that he said he would... No apology from them after he told them about the email fiasco, just told curtly to send to a different address (which worked).

I was then told that I needed another reference, I gave them it. It was perfect apparently... then I got 4 calls in a row from them, 3 of them the person on the other end was talking to somebody else rather than into the phone. Then eventually when she decided to talk into the phone she told me that the reference wasn't good then enough and they wanted another.

After that I got a call from the Senior Contracts Manager, apparently at my induction he had photocopied the wrong page of my bank statement. To rectify this I had to leave town early and then go to the library to scan in the piece that he neglected to scan..... they don't ask btw, they demand.

Then I received a call to say the job was to start a few days later than planned, I asked if the references were ok - yep, totally fine all checked out. I then get another call 2 days later, practically accusing me of faking one of the references... erm nope I didn't.

I started tonight, the job was Data Input - it said in the advert Data Input, they said many many times it was Data Input... well it wasn't, it was some horrible horrible cross referencing, number juggling headache.
