Had to make a claim last year after an incident in a TESCO car park, where a young man reversed into my car whilst I was stationary.
Despite my telling them initially, and on a number of subsequent occasions that the store's CCTV may have captured the incident, they appeared uninterested and failed to follow this up until some months later when they eventually contacted the store's security guy, who was not in, but failed to pursue it any further.
Their customer service/claims operatives seemed to have no interest and little clue as to what was going on and gave me very little feed-back throughout the claims process, I had to call them on a number of occasions to find out what was going on, and only really got any action from them once I had made a complaint to the insurance ombudsman.
There was a lot of to-ing and fro-ing and pressure from my side before we eventually got the car repaired, after having paid a £475 excess!
We also had to go through hell and high water before they would pay for a hire car for us while ours was repaired, this was after a lot of complaining from our side.
They offered me a 50/50 settlement, which we turned down.
Eventually it went to court, where th farce continued. Their appointed solicitor had failed to give photographs I took at the time of the incident to the other party's solicitor or the magistrate, important photo's that showed the position of the cars at point of impact.
I am now contacting the Insurance Ombudsman again regarding the absolutely woeful service we have received from TESCO insurance
In short, yes they are very cheap, but god help you if you want to make a claim!
