“Poor desptach / communication process”

I ordered some gloves and an item of boys clothing.
I was advised that the clothing item was despatched at 4pm the same day, valued at £3.00 and the postage was charged at £3.99.
This was fine until I received an email sent at 4 am the next day saying the gloves were out of stock and the order had been cancelled. I only actually wanted the gloves and the clothing item was just an add on given that I was already paying the postage for the gloves. Basically I would have like the chance to cancel the whole order before being charged the postage on what I considered to be an extra item. Given the choice I would have cancelled. When I emailed them, the answer was basically I could return the clothing, but that would have cost me even more.
