This is a review of a 455 Rancher. It has a decompression valve for easy starting, but I didn't need it. I just filled the saw with two-stroke fuel and chain oil, pumped the bubble about eight times until I saw fuel in it and put the choke on full. l did about three pulls until I heard a pop and then went to half choke and it started on the next pull. I let it run for about 30 seconds, took it off half choke and started cutting.

Cutting went for an hour and a half with one stop in the middle to cut up a 16" Ash that was knoched down in an ice storm. This saw goes through Ash like butter. I was considering a 240E instead of this saw but now I'm really glad I bought the Rancher. I would have fought several more hours to get that Ash down with a smaller saw. Also, the chain oiler seems to work just fine on this saw. That was a fairly common complaint with other Husky owners who reviewed different saws I looked at.

A 455E is a different saw. There are a lot of complaints I've read about the 455E and the "easy adjust' device that they use to attach the bar on that saw. The standard 455 has two nuts and bolts that hold the bar on the saw. This is the same setup I had on my old Homelite and that saw worked for 20 years without issue. I figure this saw will last me the rest of my life. If it were lost or stolen, I'd buy another in a heartbeat.

This saw is a replacement for a twenty year old Homelite 330 that decided to die. The 455 Rancher is at least as good if not better.
