“The finish on this Fender Special Edition Custom...

written by slkmaniac on 18/03/2011

The finish on this Fender Special Edition Custom Telecaster FMT HH is so good it looks like it's been dipped in liquid glass and the smoked chrome fittings look tremendous. It has a set neck, twin Seymore Duncans, two control knobs where one doubles as a switch between single and twin poles, and a 3 position toggle switch. There is very neat ivory binding around the body and along the edges of the neck. It has a carved flamed maple top in amber (other colors available) which I love - having said that I liked all the FMT colors. Although the shape is traditional Tele the overall look is significantly different and to my eyes more interesting and certainly to a much better quality than usual.

I also have a G&L ASAT Special and although I was expecting this guitar to be somewhat similar sound-wise but it is actually very different - to me it's like a cross between my Stratocaster and Les Paul but more Strat-like.

I find that the sound is very clean, can be very edgy and twangy, but can also be very warm too. Basically I think it pretty much covers all the bases for me.

This guitar plays very nicely and has a great action which is perfect for my playing style. Set-up was perfect and I haven't found anything yet that I'd want to adjust. The strings are one gauge lighter than I'd normally use so I may put Ernie Ball regular slinkys on when I change them, but then again maybe I'll just see how these work out over the next week or two. Switch operation and pick-up control is very good and I find it all very easy to get the sound I want out of this guitar.

I got this guitar and after intending to get a Fender Deluxe Blackout Telecaster, but as soon I as I saw this I just wanted it. I think it has a big wow factor in terms of it's look, quality, and sound and playing it is a real pleasure. I've had guitars in the past that have taken me a few hours before I've really started to enjoy playing them a lot, my Les Paul would be a case in point, but this one just clicked for me as soon as I started playing. I love it.
