“It's about time we saw Bruno Mars' name on a CD...”

Written on: 06/11/2010

It's about time we saw Bruno Mars' name on a CD without the word 'featuring' written in front of it. It was clear from the moment we heard B.o.B's 'Nothin' On You' and Travie McCoy's 'Billionaire' that the voice of one Peter Hernandez would be one to grace our ears for a very long time. Lending his creative writing talent to the likes of Flo Rida ('Right Round'), K'naan (Wavin' Flag') and Cee Lo Green with the ever so popular F*** You!, Bruno has slowly been setting the world stage of music alight over the last three years. And now with 'Just The Way You Are' as the leading single from his debut album Doo-Wops & Hooligans, it seems he is about to set it ablaze.

The song melts your heart from the second you press play, as the catchy piano riff and the soft vocals of Mars sweeps over you, the latter of which is thankfully consistent throughout the entire song. The lyrics are as cliched as it gets, but somehow it works. These are the words girls want to hear from their boyfriends, and it is this aspect of the song that will help Mars gain a vast female fan base.

However, fans of Mars' previous works such as 'Billionaire' can again look forward to a foot-tapping beat that makes the entire song very easy on the ears. It is almost guaranteed people will be singing along to the addictive chorus in no time, where the beat speeds up slightly, highlighting the feel-good feature of this track.

All in all there is no doubt this will be a very successful song, and what better way to mark the start of Bruno's solo career? Citing legends such as Elvis Presley, Prince and Michael Jackson as his influences, one would do well to bet that Bruno could easily follow in those very footsteps. Get ready to hear the light, falsetto voice of Bruno Mars for a long time yet.
