We recently returned from two weeks in Egypt, the first of which was spent aboard the M/S Mahrousa, cruising down from Luxor to Aswan and back.
We enjoyed this trip very much. The ship is turned out in "Nubian" style decor which is very attractive and welcoming. Food, although slightly repetitive, was wholesome and plentiful, and service very good (buffet style for your meal but waiter service for the drinks, which were all inclusive).
We took in all the temples and tombs along the way - Luxor, Karnak, Edfu, Valley Of The Kings, etc. - which were very interesting and impressive. Apart from Abu Simbel, which was a coach trip of about 3 and a half hours each way, these excursions were included in the holiday cost.
Plenty of room on the upper deck for sunbathing as you bobbed along the river, and you could also watch the world go by on the banks of the Nile. Very busy boat traffic, a hive of activity! But there were no delays and everything went smoothly.
Our cabin was number 214 which was a good height above the water, so you still had views out of the cabin windows as you went along. To any prospective travellers we would say, book a cabin well above water level, even if it is at a slightly higher cost. The cabins were cleaned regularly, and our cabin boy Ahmed, made some very impressive and humorous "towel creations" using our glasses, hats, etc.!
This was our first cruise of any description and we thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Atmosphere was relaxed and friendly, no snobbery or stiff and starchy people, just ordinary average holidaymakers enjoying themselves.
There was some evening entertainment but plenty of room if you just wanted to sit quietly, play cards, etc.
Our second week in resort wasn't quite as enjoyable (see separate review) and we would have been happy to have ended the holiday "on a high" when we came off the Mahrousa. Highly recommended.
