“I've been looking combo LCD/DVD/Freeview TV's for the...”

written by piratematt on 17/11/2009

I've been looking combo LCD/DVD/Freeview TV's for the bedroom for a while, to replace an ageing 14" CRT.

Like the previous reviewer - I couldn't find many reviews for this, but the Matsui 22" seemed to have good features, and is aesthetically a nice piece of kit (compared to the logic, cello and technika alternatives)

Once I got the set home - I was bowled over. I'm still smiling now!

Freeview reception is excellent, and the picture quality is fantastic for a budget set. Colour definition is brilliant (I'd recommend playing with the colour settings though; as the default is a little too 'technicolour') and sound is fantastic. Many of these smaller sets suffer exceptionally poor tinny sound, and whilst this TV is obviously no match for seperates; it is the best I've heard in its class. Nicam stereo can be clearly heard, and bass is more than adequate for the size of the TV.

The EPG is also very responsive. This was one aprehention I had; as I've seen some awful built in freeview systems before. This one is a joy to use, with quick access to now/next - and full screen epg with TV preview.

The DVD player is also excellent. I watched Bolt and Quantum of Solace - two very different tests; both passed with flying colours. Both were beautifully upscaled to 720p - and bolt was incredible. Again, please take the time to alter the default colour settings though.

USB support works flawlessly - I've recorded and played back a few TV shows now. You have to turn time shift to on via a menu, as it is off by default; but this also works a treat. The TV can also play back mpg and avi files HD/SD with no problem. Indeed it does just as a good a job as my XBOX hooked up to my Panasonic G10 downstairs. Really pleased with the USB feature.

I've not tested the HDMI, SCART, Component, Composite (RCA plugs) of VGA connections. I thought I'd list them though to confirm the fantastic input options on this TV.

One of the best purchases I've made this year; and very recommended
