My son has a current account plus. He is a 19 year old student now at University and mistakenly went £1.36 overdrawn.
The ATM told him he had £20+ available in his account.
Yorkshire bank imposed a £25 penalty on him which put him over his limit. They failed to alert him on his Internet banking service and he did not recieve a letter. They are now looking to charge him a further 25 on top of the first £25 all for the sake of £1.36.
We have phoned the bank time after time and they just keep saying that the charges are compliant with their terms of business. We were asked to visit our local branch., but there was no manager available at the branch and nobody with any authority.
The charges are clearly disproportionate and unfair for my son who is only a student and of limited means.
The Bank are not available for comment and are treating us with contempt instead of taking this case on an individual and rational footing.
They are a disgrace and their stance is deplorable.
They have no regard for persons who are responsible yet who have made a minor error in respect of what is only a very small sum. Their charges amount to something like 2000% and rising, comparable with an illegal loan shark. A true disgrace, banks reign supreme as always!
