“We travelled from Ashford to Rudesheim area in...”

written by on 02/08/2010

We travelled from Ashford to Rudesheim area in Germany, aariving back int eh UK on friday. The trip down was horrendous, unfortunately. From Calais to Rudesheim there was 1 five minute stop. We were led to believe that we would stop later at services, so refused the microwave meal offered for purchase, and then all we got was this 1 tiny stop, during which we wer hassled to hurry up! We grabbed salads from the cafe area, then realised we had no cutlery. The driver would not let us use cutlery, even though we know they had metal cutlery on board as we had seen it when the microwaved hotpots were served! Arrived at hotel at 1 am having left Ashford 12 hours earlier, and of course everything was shut. Nowhere to wait whilst'porterage' took place, which we were informed wold take 30-40 minutes. In fact it was clear this would take forever, so mny people just took their own cases so that they could go to bed.Hotel clean, room pretty, service ok, food just about passable.Clock tower and night freight trains very close to hotel along with live music until 1 am and terrible noise from the kitchens starting at 7am made sleep very limited. Rudehseim day out was nice, as was visit for winetasting, some beautiful scenery, but trip spoilt by very poorly coordinated travel links and timings.
