Good Points
Fast, comfortable, the executives hot hatch. VW Golf reliability, spare parts easy to obtain.

Bad Points
Fuel consumption, rust.

General Comments
Have now owned a Volkswagen Golf 1997 VR6 for over two years. Had some minor problems, but were wear and tear issues, like CV boots, etc. Unfortunately, now at the age of 8 years... it is starting to show some rust bubbles in places.... debatable whether to respray or replace with a newer V6....



When driven carefully, the fuel consumption is about 34 mpg, but when driven with no regard for economy, then 28 mpg is average.



Was a fast hot hatch in its day, but now dated, so 0-60mph of 7.3 seconds is actually not really that fast....Nowadays it can actually be outpaced by a high performance TDi golf.
