“WHY!!....”

Written on: 06/03/2013 by Reeper (1 review written)

Why spoil the traditional well known, well loved McVities biscuit. Mcvities digestive choc biscuits have always been part of my family and friends upbringing. We will be boycotting mcvities in search of other brands. I'm sure they will notice a down turn in sales. Mcvities you have made a 'bad move'… Read Full Review

“Why change something so good?”

Written on: 25/02/2013 by Norman123 (1 review written)

We have been eating McVitee digestives since childhood. We bought our last packet today. What on earth have they done to them? They are usually broken in the packet, they taste odd, almost a nasty back taste and they are nothing like the original biscuit. They had it right, now they have got it very wrong. What a shame. Another British institution gone… Read Full Review

“Awesome”

Written on: 20/11/2012

Really good and has a lot of taste in it. The undisputed king of the large diameter biscuits, this is truly an iconic biscuit. Found in two main varieties, SweetMeal and WholeMeal, the digestive biscuit sets a standard for the whole biscuit world. Its satisfying nature make the biscuit eater consider how many to have at a time 1,2 or maybe 3. It's versatile providing the base for many more elaborate biscuits, (see Chocolate Caramels), and even chocolate covered biscuit bars such as the… Read Full Review

“ Great British tea dunking biscuit is no longer!”

Written on: 20/09/2012 by Diginoo (1 review written)

I have been eating plain and chocolate digestives ever since I was a baby 40 years ago, although I cannot vouch for what they tasted like in the first 10 years of my life I do know that as a kid visiting my grandparents who brought tinned biscuits in Walthamstow London they never tasted as nice like Mcvities! Our family have noticed that Mcvities have not been the same lately - firstly you buy a packet and find that nearly half a dozen at each end of the packet are broken to a certain degree… Read Full Review

I fully agree with this review, the number of broken biscuits in every pack is a disgrace. I will be looking around for something else now

Try Marks & Spencer digestives. Much superior, better flavour and best of all, don't fall apart so easily. I swtched last year after yet another package of biscuits in which the majority of the contents were broken. Would never willingly go back to McVities. Serves them right for changing the recipe!

“So disappointed”

Written on: 16/07/2012

Thought Id purchased the wrong brand so had a re-check. Saw the comments online and find it hard to understand the logic behind this change. They might as well have discontinued the line and save themselves some pain. Will now try another brand as a last resort… Read Full Review

“Good gone bad”

Written on: 02/07/2012 by Barbarajean (1 review written)

I have eaten McVities plain digestive biscuits for more than 60 years as my parents always bought these, a habit I continued. Our biscuit tin always contained a packet of McVities plan digestive. I thought I must have been imagining things when they began to taste different. I happened to mention this to someone else who said they too had wondered what was different. They are now oily, stick to your teeth and taste completely unpleasant. What on earth have you done? Why did change a… Read Full Review

“McVities Digestives - Product Quality ”

Written on: 16/04/2012

As someone who has worked in the food industry getting on for 20 years, and for some of the UK's biggest brands, I cannot believe that the McVities Brand Team have allowed the current biscuit into the Supermarkets. The reduction in fat levels has reduced it to a fragile pile of crumbled mess that can only be damaging to this (previously) great brand. I've just thrown away approx. 30% of a newly opened packet - and this isn't the first time. Someone at McVities need to take action before… Read Full Review

What a disappointment it all is, A calamity! These biscuits were a part of life, I could not believe it would change, I thought it must be me, So I keep buying them, Then thinking we must be getting old stock down here Downunder, I have a freezer full of packets with just one out of them,
Crikey they are just nasty, A substitute for the most excellent tea biscuit ever conceived ,I think Not! , yes they should change the packet! these are not McVities Digestives,as we know them. They are crumb rounds for a bland cheesecake base.

“Very Good”

Written on: 25/01/2012 by lalalalala (1 review written)

I have been buying mcvities biscuits for years now, and have never had any problems with packaging of condition of the biscuits on purchase. I have however noticed that the price of mcvities biscuits is increasing, which tends to make people go for the cheaper 'non-branded' products. As a long-term customer i will be staying loyal to mcvities, as long as the price stays affordable i have no complaints!… Read Full Review

Written on: 28/02/2011

I've just phoned McVities customer care line to report the following problems with their product - (and also referred them to this web page) -

What on earth has happened with McVities plain digestive biscuits?

For several months I have been finding higher and higher proportions of broken biscuits in packets. At first I put this down to the idiots the local shops employ as shelf stackers. However, packets bought more recently from large retailers have been just the same and this weekend was… Read Full Review

Written on: 31/12/2010 by Johnehart (1 review written)

I say boycott the biscuits altogether until McVities listen. I have been eating and enjoying them until now for the past 20 years and have found the quality and taste steadily declining. I have sent my wife half mad asking her to shop at different outlets in an effort to find any of good quality. I have found that they vary in texture and colour, appear only half baked at times, and many are so broken i just feed them to the birds. As a child I used to buy broken biscuits for two pence - now I… Read Full Review

I agree, just don't buy them until they revert to the old recipe. The company is just covering their backsides because of "anti-fat" pressure groups when they say they are only reacting to customer's demands.

“In reply to the previous reviewers comments, McVities...”

Written on: 24/06/2010

In reply to the previous reviewers comments, McVities have reduced the fat content of their digestive biscuits and in my opinion this has reduced the taste and made them much more fragile. This is the second fat reduction in two years but I think it is a mistake. They already produce a "light" version so why not give consumers the choice and bring back the old recipe… Read Full Review

I found this review very helpful because... it mirrors my exact views.

McVities seem obsessive about FAT in their products. These are treat foods not staples. This is all unfortunately part of our overly controlling society, in our thoughts and our food. The pleasure has been 'healthed' out of their products, I never by them at all anymore and by luxury treats that still contain proper ingredients, such as fat and flavour !!!

Eventually we will be living in a world where we consume a government controlled diet of news religion thoughts and foods. Role on 1984.

they have no choice. In this day and age, peopel are health concerned. The united states spend the most int he world on health care and yet has the highest rate of noncommunicable diseases such as cardiovascular health diseases. Consumers are always told to compare nutrition fact tables and go for the lowest fat, lowest cholesterol, lowest calories etc. I think mcvities is willing to sacrifice the taste for a bigger fan base. If you compare many simliar crackers side by side, and mcvities digestive crackers are so much higher in all the "nutrients to limit", they are definitely going to plummet in sales and loose a large potential customer base.

The reduced fat content in McVities Digestives is not driven solely by health concerns. You can bet they have a laboratory working on making the biscuits cheaper to produce using substitute ingredients whilst monitoring taste with a panel of "experts". The price hasn't gone down so profits have probably gone up, meanwhile the biscuits aren't as good, taste off even when freshly opened and don't keep once opened. Shame on them.

Written on: 27/03/2010

We have been passionate consumers of McVitie's Digestive biscuits for years. Our house is seldom without a couple of packs (we always buy the twin pack). However, over recent months we have become concerned and disappointed by the high breakage level. Almost always, it seems nowadays, the first and last biscuit is broken - sometimes shattered - and frequently some further biscuits are damaged at the edges. Does anyone know why? Different packaging machinery? Less outer protection? Or more… Read Full Review

I was a big fan of Mcvities Digestivies until they decided to make the 'new lower saturated fat' version. I am all for healthy eating but not when it takes something away from the taste. The new version tastes abit like babies' biscuits, it's still crumbly but lost that full oaty/wheaty flavour, tastes too milky. Since the lower cal version exists anyway, please bring back the original for those of us who don't mind saturated fats every now and then!… Read Full Review
