Joined slimming world five weeks ago. Tried really hard, doing every thing by the book and have only lost three pounds. Don't understand why. Feeling down hearted. Really like the plan it just isn't working for me.

I've done Slimming World a few times and must say it worked a treat! Lost weight easily without feeling starved. I found that doing some form of exercise (even just walking for about 30-60 minutes a day or every other day) regularly really helps to speed up the weight loss!

Rayche.....I haven't tried Slimming World, but know people who swear by it. I admit that 3Ibs in 5 weeks sounds fairly unusual. I know that doing everything 'by the book' and then only losing minimum weight can be depressing. However, don't give up. Weight loss all depends on any number of factors......How much weight you have to lose, exercise levels, and commitment to writing down each and every morsel which passes your lips!
1-2 Ibs per week should be average, but staying the same weight is also an achievement. I would persevere a little longer, then if you are still not happy then there are other weight loss plans that may suit you better. You just have to find the right one. Good luck!

Written on: 30/10/2006 by djeva1 (51 reviews written)

When I joined a local Slimming World group near to me, I was looking forward to meeting a warm friendly group, but I was wrong and I was quite disappointed with the consultant because she did not explain to me clearly about the healthy extras and how to use them or how to fill out the weekly diaries and I was left confused. The next time I came to the group, the consultant became abrupt and cold when I told her that I did not understand how to food optimise and therefore was unable to fill out… Read Full Review

Please try another consultant. I have had to change groups due to family commitments and both consultants have been great. Not everyone liked my first one but I did. I guess it's a bit like teachers at school. Some you get on with others you don't. But overall consulants are there to encourage you. I am sorry you had a bad experience but please try again as the eating plan really works.

Aslim's Response to djeva1's Review

I am a consultant for Slimming World and I would like to clear up the misconception that you cannot have chocolate whilst Food Optimising - yes you can as long as you weigh it and count the syn value. Secondly the reason that pure fruit juices are syns is because they are known as wasteful calories, Slimming World pride themselves on free foods and the purpose of a free food is to fill you up, e.g. if you eat an orange whole it will fill you up however if you juice it it will quench your thirst but not have the same affect as eating it therefore you will go on to consume more calories which could be detrimental to your weight loss.

Actually, you can have a little chocolate every now and again as a treat as a sin. Therefore, you should not feel so deprived as on other diets, but what surprised me was the fact that pure fruit juices are also sin values.

Slimming World: I have been dieting with Rosemary Conley for about 3 1/2 years and although I have lost a lot of weight with them I found for the last few months I have been yo-yoing up and down and I didn't like the new diet coupled with the fact that the instructor was not very encouraging if you are having a bad time of it.

I've cheated a bit on the diet because I bought the books off the internet so I didn't have to pay every week to go to Slimming World but I just follow it exactly same and it really is as easy as people tell you. In the first 3 weeks I lost 16 lb! and 2 weeks after that I lost another 10 lb so I now weigh just under 15 stone. It can be hard to see the weight loss yourself apart from when you get weighed so when people keep saying 'oh haven't you lost weight' you get a real buzz and you know it… Read Full Review

The Slimming World diet can take some getting used to, for example most fruit and veg is free on both days green and red, however peas, parsnips and potatoes are limited on the red days due to there high carb intake. Fundementally its a healthy eating plan which limits your Kcal and fat intake with out counting Kcal or fat grams. However you can over eat which is its only downfall, if you over eat you will not loss those lbs!… Read Full Review

As a Slimming World consultant and member having lost 7 stones and that all important 1/2 a pound, I cant say enough about it. Written on: 26/07/2004 by toastero (2 reviews written)

The premise of the Slimming World diet is loosely based on food combining. It is called food optimising and the eating plan is divided into GREEN days where you can eat as much carbs as you want and RED days whenyou can eat as much protein as you want. Each day is divided in to three parts on which your food choices are based. They are your FREE FOODS, HEALTHY EXTRAS and SYNS. Depending on the day you're having, your free foods are eaten freely and in unlimited quantities i.e. on green days… Read Full Review

If you are excercising at least 3-4 times a week and you follow a diet plan, you will loose. Excercise increades your metabolism and so does food. If you follow the Slimming World Diet and just join a local gym in the USA or Canada and take a few fitness sessions (which is usually included when joining a gym), then you don't need these LA Weight Loss, Weight Watchers and Jenny Craig plans. When picking a gym, you need cardio equipment and resistance training. Don't be afraid to use weights if you are a female! The fight to loose weight is not really that complicated. The net is a wealth of information. Personally I have always done well on lower carb diets, specifically cutting the sugar and the high glycemic foods.

To people with he weight gain if you have been on a diet previously it maybe that your metabolism needs to get use to the amount of food that you are eating, the body when inactive stores food or if you have not been eating regular meals it may store fat as it does not know when the next meal will be, so it may take some time for your body to adjust to the fact that you are now EATING.
I would make sure that you try some of the SS free foods to get started maybe, and stick with it, I lost 2st with slimming world and had the odd times when it did not shift, but it will happen.
It maybe as well look at what you are eating even though you are following the plan it maybe that your body reacts to a certain food and stores it, change the free foods that you are eating be experimental with your choices and try the mix and match and express success books to help you.
ALL THE BEST and no I don't work for slimming world just know it works.

I too, lost weight with Slimming World when I lived in the UK. I now live in Arizona, and it makes me sick to see the Brits moan about the cost of going to the weekly classes. It's so inexpensive, you ought to see what it costs to go to slimming clubs here! I have spent thousands of dollars going to LA Weight Loss here, and am so hungry all of the time. Lost lots of weight with them, but am stuck at a plateau, and all they tell me is to eat even less than what I have been eating, it's driving me around the bend! I just may join Slimming World again online just so I can eat and not be moody all the time, life is toooo short! Why in the world won't Slimming World come to the US, land of the morbidly obese???? We NEED them here, desperately!!! Thanks so much in advance, Diane

Lesley Welsh's Response to toastero's Review

Written on: 26/01/2005

I must agree with previous review writers. Slimming world is changing our lives. My husband is diabetic and his sugar levels were spiralling out of control. Since starting the Slimming World class in Hoddesdon he has reduced his blood sugar levels from around 18 down to 9! This is in just 11 weeks. He has lost 13 pounds so far and I have lost 12. Being inuslin dependant makes it incredibly difficult for my husband to lose weight so we are extremely happy with the weight loss so far. We have not gone without or felt deprived, as you can eat normally using your healthy extras and counting sin values on favourite snacks. However it is not just the eating programme that has helped us to achieve this, but also the incredible support from the Slimming World Consultant, Jackie, who puts so much effort into preparing and running the classes. Her encouragement and sensible advice are priceless. Jackie really does care and nothing is too much for her. The classes are a real laugh and everyone mucks in to help make it a good evening. If you are thinking of starting a weight loss programme I would definately recommend Slimmind World and no I do not work for them either!!!

This is a good review, and this is the only eating plan where you are allowed to EAT. Don't be worried, just eat! It is difficult after years of dieting to give yourself that permission.

Red day menu looked too sparse, and don't forget their delicious HiFi bars are a Healthy Extra, and I top up if hungry with fruit and Muller yoghurts.

If you are depressed about your weight - come along, I am 2lbs aways from a 3 stone loss, and no, I don't work for them. I am feeling great.

I found Slimming world eating plan to be terribly easy to follow. What I loved most about it is the fact that there is a strong emphasis on fruits and vegetables, calcium and fibre. All the vitamins and minerals really that allow one to be healthy and an avoidance of saturated fats.
