The Atkins diet worked extremely well for me, think this was because of the lack of carbs, didn't have any cravings or hunger pangs and the weight dropped off, I ate lots of strawberries with canderel and fresh cream as well as sugar free jelly when I fancied a dessert.
I think it's a good way to kick start weight loss, not sure if one could continue indefinitely on this diet but it gave me quickest results in shortest time and made me realise refined carbs, along with processed foods and sugar are really toxic!

I have been doing the induction phase for 8 days now. I have lost 7 pounds so far which is fantastic considering I had been going to the gym 4 times a week previous to this and had barely lost a couple of pounds in two months. I can't see this being a long term diet as I am now getting bored with eggs and bacon every morning, however, it is good for a quick kick start into weight loss. I plan to stay away from bread and pasta long term though as I have discovered my stomach feels a lot less bloated and uncomfortable since giving these up. One thing I will say is I definitely no longer have strong cravings for sweets, chocolate or cakes and the Atkins bars are good as an occasional treat to ease the boredom of savory only foods. I will probably begin to eat a little cereal and some fruit after the 14th day and hopeful keep losing weight (although I know it will be at a much lower pace). I do think that the Atkins diet gives you the boost you need and decreases your appetite which is hopefully something you can use to your advantage even when you begin to introduce more carbohydrates.

Just ate burgers and sasusage and bacon. Feel ok, as long as your drinking plenty of water you should be fine. Will let you know how i'm doing mid-week. Kevin

I don't really feel the diet is working. I am really restricted on what i am eating and crave chocolate even more now than befre, in conjunction i am boosting my metabolism with natural tablets from hlland and barret but there seems to be little change.

Started off very well. Lost a stone in the first 2 weeks, then moved on to the next stage and on from there. After some time I really got sick with the foods, I was really craving for sweets and fruit as before starting the diet I would indulge in fruits in the form of home-made smoothies and on-the-go-snacks. Although I keep eating lots of meat, fish and other high-fat foods, I have eaten more nuts and some other foods not allowed at this stage. This is because I have had severe constipation ever since going on the diet. I couldn't bear it any longer and decided to have extra foods high in fiber. I would recommend Atkins for those, whose BMI is very high. And if you can make the change in your lifestyle to ditch high-carb foods, then you will be very happy with the results!

Very good for weight loss, fairly cheap compared to many diets. I have been doing the atkins diet for about a year, not always strictly and have lost 30 lbs.

Since my daughter was born I have been eating as if i'm still pregnant. My daughter is now 16 months and I have struggled to lose the weight. I told my doctor that I couldn't stop with the food cravings and she recommended the Atkins diet to help curve my cravings. It has been a week since I tried this diet, and I have to say my cravings have gone down and I have lost 10 lbs. I have also been going to the gym an hour a day, but I was going to the gym for the past 3 months and only saw a weight lost of maybe 3 lbs. My problems was that I was eating what ever I wanted and working out but couldn't lose the weight. I think the Atkins diet is great to lose those pounds. And I still have 45lbs to lose, which I find it easy to follow. If you go to the official Atkins website their are delicious receipts that you can follow which gives you a large range of food you can eat. I would recommend this diet to any one. I only think people gain the weight back because they don't make a lifestyle change. I don't plan on following a low carb high fat diet forever. I just want to lose this weight and change my lifestyle to eat a variety of nutrious foods to maintain a healty weight....

I've lost a little, but no more than on a low fat diet. It most certainly allows you to control hunger, but I found it expensive and requiring quite a bit of planning. I persoanlly found it restrictive and not great at fittting in with family life. The low carb sweets and bars gave me really, really bad wind!!! and the cereal bars were inedible, which totally limits my access to 'sweet' foods. So to me its just not life long as I must be able to eat these things sometimes. However I am going to take away some of the priniciples of the atkins diet.

Give it a go adapt to suit u and your needs. Defiantly numbs hunger i have reduced my calories aswell for extra weightloss and to b sure of weight loss on 1000 kcals per day but with the aktins low card and high protien food and yes tested for ketones and r strong in urine hunger is controlled on this diet but still needs will power i love chicken and fried eggs and can really fill your belly this diet. I would not do long term just for weight loss periods because of health scares

Te Atkins diet definitely works, I lost half a stone in practically no time at all. The question to ask is what is the long term effect on my body, the answer is I dont know. The problem with this diet is that it can be quite expensive and there are a lot of changes to your diet and they way you eat. (I know this is true of all diets but Atkins is something a bit different) Another problems with this diet is that the weight can very easily be put back on, and it can happen very quickly. I think if you want to lose weight and keep it off you have to obey normal healthy eating and exercise.

It is really easy to just eat the greasy foods, but if you really want this to work (and the weight to stay off), you NEED to eat your veggies and start to include fruit when you're allowed.

You will need to research how the body metabolism works to use Atkins' approach and tune it to your body in the final phases. If you can grasp the idea of insulin response to blood sugar surges, you're most of the way there. The other key concept is ketosis, not to be confused with ketoacidosis. Your body will experience very mild ketosis as it breaks down stored fat to maintain blood sugar levels. Soon, you will know what stable blood sugar level feels like and you will not want to go back to hunger pangs and strong peaks and troughs of blood sugar levels caused by high starch intake.
A highly effective diet. Not for those who are unable to cook. Those who are competent in the kitchen will have no problems juggling food mixes within the constraints of the diet. I'd recommend it if you have the patience to grasp the principles first.

The great thing about atkins is the simplicity the speed you lose weight its a good diet IF YOU CAN HANDLE IT when I say handle it I mean, the horrible taste in your mouth the constant need to pee the headaches (That lasted longer than a week) the feeling sick pounding headaches I had these for a week. I had to quit because I had a terrible back pain in one side.

Would do it again but find it difficult to get started. but it does get easier after the first week but those first 7 days are really hard.

I have been following the Atkins plan without any exerise for 15 days and have lost 14 pounds, i think this is a really good diet with fast results and only have an other 10 pounds to lose and my bmi will be just right .

My biggest problem on Atkins is dining out as everything has sugar or high glycemic carbs in it. Also it can be expensive buying the right foods. Overall the diet works, but you must excercise to see the full benefits.

If you are a yo-yo dieter don't go on this diet because you will end up heavier than when you started. If you are seriously willing to commit to something that works and has restrictions then go for it...you have nothing to lose other than the ability to eat bread.

I did the Atkins diet for 30 days and lost 20 lbs. I must add that I did walk 2 miles 5x a week with this diet. I think it was great. I was never hungry. I have kept this weight off now for 2 years.

I think there is just one point to make to all the so called Atkins fans out there - DR Atkins died weighing a massive 18 stone (hmmmm I wonder how much fried bacon and cream he ate??)
