Well I seem to agree with everyone else on here, for the money the Dansai 852 DVD player simply cannot be beaten. I bought this as a second player because of the MP3 playback facility but this is now in my living room and my £200 LG is in the bedroom. The only thing is that the tray doesnt come all the way out, you have to put the discs in a slight angle as there is a tiny over hang from the case. This the same on other peoples or is mine gonna go back? ;) (read more)

Bought it this morning at tesco's (£99.49),and checked all my dvd's and some cd's and it's fantastic. i had a Proline 1000 dvd player which i bought 2 yrs ago for £180 and i had loads of trouble with it. it wouldn't play basic BBC's Only Fools And Horses series 1 and 2.
but the dansai plays them ok. i was a bit nervous at first about buying one but very glad that i have!! (read more)

Having owned several DVD players in the past, this Dansai 852 DVD player was purchased as a "spare" for use in spare room. Comparing it to my Toshiba model I cannot find general sound and vision in any way inferior to it despite costing over four times the price. The 3D sound facility needs to be turned on to enable audio to sound as it ought to even if the optical output is being utilised,which incidently will not work in tandem with line outputs. Maybe I am being a little over critical but... (read more)

As well as using the Dansai DVD player to play UK DVD's; audio CD's; and a CDRW loaded with a music track copied from an audio CD, I have recorded photo images and played back a slide/film show on the TV using Ulead's CDR/Photo Image software. This has great potential for making electronic photo albums.
I have tried an audio CD with a video track e.g. Sting's Brand New Day, on my PC DVD this plays a short video intro but it does not show up on the Dansai? Any reasons why?
I have loaded in... (read more)

Yes there is a hack for both region and macrovision
It also supports RCE disks
It is as follows;
Press set up on the remote
then on the front panel press;
and up pops the factory setup menu
go to region id and you have a choice of 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 and bypass (mulit-region), it should also play RCE disks
There is also an option called macrovision on/off
This has been tried on a couple of the Dansai players (read more)

What can I say? BUY ONE NOW. Video quality is awesome using S-Video, vibrant with good contrast, takes the **** out of the Hollywood+ card I was using before, and audio clarity is excellent. Has every feature you would ever need besides the onboard DTS decoding, and a button packed remote to play with. MP3 playback is outstanding, in my opinion much better than the distorting Wharfedale M5, and when playing high bitrate MP3s it gives my Technics CD player a run for its money. Will also play... well u at the top man,,,,for 99 quid and a few pennies this absolutley destroys the wharfdale, m5, much better mp3 menu much better zoom facility and a great little chapter/part search for vcd's and it is machro free!"!!!, who cares about the tesco helpline who cares about the 'ding' anyway if u leave it a while the screenesaver comes on , so in my book this is a well excellent dvd/vcd player and well worth the travel to a tesco stores that has it ,
and that little region/machro hack is... (read more)

Played a lot of region 2 DVD's with no trouble at all, and it is a nice silver case which is not too cheap looking. The real downer is the tesco help-line number on the tv screen when not playing a disc. Really I don't know why we should be paying money to advertise Tesco in our own homes.
It would be nice if a multiregion hack could be found for the player. There is a lot of discussion about it at present but as yet I have not found any of the suggested ones to work.
In general a bargain... (read more)
