The code for accessing the factory menu is turn on player -with no cd in tray - press set-up on remote.(Normal setup screen appears) now press stop - RRW (Previous chapter) - FFW (next chapter). The secret Factory Menu appears - you can now bypass the region control and switch off macrovision. [Does anyone know what the CSS feature is?]
This player worked well with MP3's showing a PC type screen, you use the arrow keys and play button (as enter), to go through the folders and select your tracks… Read Full Review

Tye Dansai 852 is pretty much a top-notch DVD player. Couple of problems with a few (R1) discs, didn't like 'Planet of the Apes' possibly the 'NUON' , 'Sex in the City' season 1&2 - produced semi-transparent bands across picture half way through each episode ??? - bizarre. However, this WAS removed by having an on-screen display in the corner, such as time-display (not ideal, but better than nowt!).
Everything else has been fine, MP3, CDR etc...can't complain… Read Full Review

The Dansai 852 is a great DVD player for the price. Very very flexible, everything you should need from a dvd vcd and cd player all in one box.
Very difficult to fault. Other than in very minor ways. Have had no problems playing region 1 and 2 disks or playing home produced SVCD and MP3 disks… Read Full Review

My Dansai 852 DVD player broke down today. When I tried to listen to Depeche Mode's CD "Ultra", the Dansai started to hum ALOT, and nothing happened. Tried to start it 3 times (I have listened to this CD before on the Dansai). The 4th time I tried the Dansai went totally dead, the display is black.... Have to take it to the repair shop. Not fun! So beware, it has nice features, but the quality????????… Read Full Review

The Dansai 852 DVD player is a superb unit, looks good, low price, good quality picture and audio, easy region hack. For the past 18 months I've been used to playing all my DVD's (Region 1 and 2) on my PC with either software (for monitor watching) or my Hollywood + to output to TV etc. Couldn't really see the need to buy a "real" player until I saw this in Tesco on Monday. Did a little research (how to hack region etc...) and bought one first thing on Tuesday!!!! very impressed and the added… Read Full Review

The Dansai 852 DVD player is a brilliant piece of kit. I was originally going to get a Sony but spotted it on the shelf while doing the weekly 'being dragged round the supermarket by the wife'. Saw it and fell in love. I've spent over £1000 quid on my home cinema so was nervous about buying a 'budget' player. When I hooked it up and the sound came out of my Wharfedale speaks I knew my mission to create the perfect cinema experience at home was finally complete… Read Full Review

I've had my Dansai 852 DVD player for about 5 months now, and have had no problems at all. I had to return the first one i bought though. It played fine for about 2 minutes, then flickered between black & white to colour, before it stuck on black and white, and that was that. So i took it back and this new one has been fine. It's got every type of output you should need so it's compatible with pretty much all hi-fi systems, to 5.1 surround setup's. Such a crazy price for loads of features (my… Read Full Review

As this Dansai 852 is my first DVD player, I don't have anything to compare the 852 with, but it seems to me to be as fully featured as players costing 2 or 3 times as much.
Very pleased with the performance, it even plays my mp3 and mpeg discs.
Very good all round, the best £99 worth I've seen this year!… Read Full Review

What a GREAT player, the Dansai 852(S) DVD player! I haven't yet tested all the formats it can read, but most of them and I'm impressed!
I bought mine in Sweden for only 145 USD, which made it one of the cheapest ones here.
Before buying it, I looked it (and a United 3151) up on the web and I found lots of good reviews here and elsewhere. The hacks page was also an important input to my decision.
Regarding the hacks, it should be pointed out that there should be NO disc in the player, when… Read Full Review

The Dansai 852 DVD player is fantastic value for money-does the job well.
Easy to set up and get going.
Even plays multi-region if you want it too.
I was looking to spend as little as possible thinking it would tide me over for a few years when I might invest in a super-dooper all singing and dancing DVD player - don't think I'll need to bother now - FANTASTIC!… Read Full Review
