“System to drive customers insane”

These guys are hopeless, designing a system to drive you insane. Started on the web site for car insurance, lots of detail onto the system -outcome no quote allowed, you will have to phone. Ages then listening to annoying messages, being passed around, all the same detail tortuously repeated and recorded, scripts read – then the phone goes dead. “PATHETIC CUSTOMER SERVICE”

If you wan't to be driven to dementia then this company will do the job. Any attempt to contact them by phone is painful. Firstly there is the long long wait for your call to be transferred from an inane automated system which keeps you on hold on a rip off 0845 number. “40 Years of Insurance”

Where do I start. 40 years of Insurance and never have I had such a bad experience. First they made an error with my car details, so insured a car under my name that wasn't mine! This was only apparent once I saw the document! Charged twice for 1 policy. When I contested it they could not figure out what went wrong, even though I explained it to 3 different people. I'm actually surprised to read all the reviews below and wonder if the complainants realise that many of their 'issues' are either their own fault or something that is common with all car insurers? “Rip off - Don't use!!!!!!!!!!!”

Their only point of contact (No e-mail or direct dial number is ever quoted on correspondence) is a premium rate number. They cancelled my policy 3 times after requesting copies of v6/ drivers licence which I returned in their prepaid 2nd class envelope. They subsequently claim not to have received it!!! £670 cash paid upfront and received refund of £230 after policy had run 12 weeks!!! Do not go any where near them. I have used Cooperative car insurance and they really do rip people of. Believe me because I am a customer just like you. They charge you unnecessary fines which can be resolved through questioning and answering. Also their customers service people/ installation works are very rude and not committed to help you. As well as, considering they do not take your views (complaints) into account. Maybe one day Cooperative will get their act together but for now I will look elsewhere, somewhere cheaper and preferably reliable.

I agree I have had the same scenarios put in front of me many times asking for huge amounts of money for no understandable reason. Also they are not the cheapest.

Bought my car insurance on a ford KA I was a named driver on my dads insurance, before taking out the policy we rang co op and explained the main insurer didn't have his photo I.d driving license because he had lost it, the co op said that's fine we only need to see car documents as we can check on dvla about license,,, so I payed £300 deposit on the 5th august and then £70 a month which was very cheap!! they some how ended up as my insurance again when i went through the aa now on the 1st of may i get a letter saying i haven't been insured since the 20 of april for thier mistake as they voided my policy. thank god i wasn't stopped but now how do i get to work. don't go through insurance brokers unless they specify which insurance they are going to have.co op will do anything to stich you that they can.phone calls to their number has cost me over 85 pounds and guess what nothing sorted and i am still un insured...avoid like the plague

Ring them on their landline number.Ask them to put you thru to "customer services" They seem a bit miffed because youv'e phoned on that number but you do get on the options trail.Don't get too exited tho because whoever I spoke to didn't really resolve my issue and a few days later I received a letter telling me to contact them about proof of no claim.E-mailed them but got one back asking to phone them.Still on-going!

“Named Drivers Discount - DOES NOT APPLY TO OLDER CARS”

Avoid this bunch of "ethical" cowboys. We paid £1200 for the privilege of insuring our 18-year old son on our policy, so that he could have 1 years discount (50%) before insuring his own car. Point 1 - the discount only applies from the 19th birthday, so we had to insure for 16 months; Point 2 - when he tried to insure a P-reg car (1996), the Co-Op refused to insure the car as it was "over 15 years old". We also had problems in that the smart box apparently kept sending out alerts to the company, they contacted us and said had we been tampering with it. We had NOT. An engineer came and said he had no idea how it could have been working as it was wired in wrongly. Next quarter my son's premium was increased because his driving had 'deteriorated'. Argh.
NOTE - if you change car they'll charge you to move the smart box. If you simply don't renew they de-activate it at no cost. Derrr. Read all the small print VERY carefully!!!

“Cancellation fee of £400?!!!”

Make sure you read the ever so small fine print on any contract with Co-Op. My sister had to sell her car due to moving; when she tried to cancel the insurance (paid up front of a year) and claim back the outstanding amount she was informed that her cancellation fee was £450 and the refund was £400, so she owed them £50 for cancelling the insurance. She had no choice but to leave the insurance in place on a car that she no longer even owned. A complete and utter rip off. Avoid, avoid… Read Full Review

Make sure if you are under 25 that you dont have a accident with this insurance company as there is and automatic excess of £200 plus the £100 standard plus your voluntary excess.. They do not put this at point of sale and i was an unlucky 1 to have to find that out the hard way.. It isnt until u access you cover note online until you find out about this extra charge. If you are considering taking out Young drivers Ins with the Co-Op please be awareof the following. Customer Services at this company are rubbish when it comes to anything other than taking money from you. woow I jut bought car insurance from co operative and just after I paid £903 for my year insurance they say is no co operative but any ecoinsurence insurance co operative is just label ??? so hopefully I will ok I see your bar experience so now I am confused even more....

The cost of ins should read £2900, still no joy 2weeks been waiting ,each time I ring get fobbed of with all sorts of exuses but no answers,was told yesterday by someone who installs smartbox, that Customer Services
are a contracted Call Centre not CIS. and everyone complains about them to him.
