“Loose medication in filthy caravan”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 19/11/2023

Arrived to a dirty caravan, full of left over food debris and beds that had not been changed from previous guests and filthy in the bedside drawer in the twin bedroom where my children were sleeping. Broken bathroom panel hanging down. Sticker containing previous guests details left in the kitchen, old rubber cleaning glove left in the kitchen. Dirty sticky marks on kitchen work surface. Complained to customer services, who tried not to comply with their own Holiday Cleanliness Guarantee policy by trying to send someone to clean it whilst we were out without completing an inspection with us as they specify in their guarantee. Someone attended, we identified all the areas of dirt we had found, which were cleaned, however the cleaner found a loose unidentified tablet in the bedroom my children were sleeping in!!! We had not previously seen this as it was covered by what looked like a broken plastic bottle cap. Customer services offered a refund of one days worth of our trip, which we accepted as we believed this was a fair resolution at this stage. However, a full caravan inspection was NOT completed and as a result we found further dirt throughout the remainder of our stay. Food remnants between plates in the cupboards, coffee marks on mugs where they hadn’t been washed, broken biscuits under sofa cushions, a pack of open ibuprofen in the bathroom cabinet, half eaten chocolate bar under the children’s beds from a previous guest, our socks were filthy just from walking around the living room area. We tried to complain again to customer services but no one was available to speak with at the time so upon departure we submitted a formal complaint, only to be advised that what we had received was considered fair and they would offer us no further compensation despite every day of our holiday finding new areas of filth in the caravan. I responded to the email to point out some factually incorrect information in their response and they didn’t even bother to reply to me. Initially all we wanted was a clean caravan, this was never financially motivated for us, however the lack of sincere apology regarding the dirt in the caravan or even real acknowledgment to the fact we found TWO SEPARATE TYPES OF MEDICATION WITHIN REACH OF OUR CHILDREN is appalling. The fact they have a no-quibble cleanliness guarantee is utterly meaningless as they will do all they can to get out of it which is by definition a quibble! I will NEVER set foot in Hopton again, purely based on the absolutely disgraceful customer service and the way this whole matter was dealt with. Had they genuinely apologised and inspected the whole caravan and cleaned it upon receipt of our complaint this would have been entirely different and avoidable but they ruined our holiday and couldn’t have cared less I would recommend choosing a different Haven park and avoid Hopton, I dread to think what could have occurred if a younger child prone to putting things in the mouth stayed in the room my children stayed it…either an unidentified pill or a stale old half eaten chocolate bar!

“Hopton”

Just got back from Hopton, the park is very clean, staff very friendly, but kids club they are not child register so you can not leave them so if you have more than one child at different age groups a bit difficult. Food was lovely and drinks were reasonable price. The only disappointment was the talent show, you have to audition so we had 23 people apply but only 6 get through, because of there schedule of the night, I think they should do a whole night so everyone can enter to save disappointment. Caravan was very clean, beach was lovely. Hired a buggy and travel cot, travel cot basic but did the job, the buggy was very basic and not ideal, did not recline backwards and there was no rain cover or umbrella when asked.

Just gotten back from a easter break, friday till monday. would thorougly recommend hopton holiday village, everything you need on site. fish a chips, amusements, indoor pool, outdoor pool ( not open though) bar with food, whcih was reasonable priced. 9 hole golf course. Eevening enttainment, was catered for all ages, the party bands were well above most holiday camps average. the caravan was rented privatly from www.directholidayhomes.com and was brand new. although we had to pay for the passes seperatly, still was cheaper than haven direct. the camp itself was clean and tidy. the beach on site is convenient, however weather stopped us going on it took a 5 minuite drive to gorleston, where there is a long and wide beach, there is also a spar on site, which on the face of it is expensive, but take into account the time it takes to get to nearest tescos about 10 min drive away, the time you pay for petrol, works out about the same. definatly would return, and as we enjoyed so much may even consioder buying a holiday home there.

“Haven Hopton”

★★★★☆

written by kingstreet on 14/11/2011

Third Haven park visited. Decent place. A bit on the quiet side, but it was the week coming up to the annual closure in October. Good value for a Sun cheapie - did pay for upgrade though. Nice clean caravan - although the windows could have done with a clean. Usual Haven amenities although the Care Home right in the middle was a bit confusing!?!

“Haven Hopton Holiday Park ”

★★★★☆

written by thuggy33 on 02/10/2011

Just had a 4 night stay at Hopton, Now this is my very first holiday at a caravan site and wasn't expecting much, we used to holiday to the likes of florida, Bahamas etc so this was a huge change in our holiday direction. We now have two boys both under 3 years old so things have had to change including the cost of our holidays. Firstly the PLUS points. We booked a Prestige caraven through a private owner and was pleasently suprised on how clean and spacious the caravan was. Very well layed out and had everything you could possibly need. We were right next to the beach which was great but a little damp to say the least but it was the end of September but we had lovely weather all week it just got very damp every night being next to the sea. The park itself was OK but a good few things were closed which was a shame. Had a few places to eat like a pub, fish & Chips, Pizza place etc. The park was clean and seemed to be looked after and the indoor swimming pool was "OK"... Now for the negatives, Other than a couple of small play grounds and some evening entertainment for the kids there didn't seem much more for the kids to do, the outdoor swimming pool was closed for the winter, the "Crazy Golf" wasn't very good (not really thought out at all) plus you had to pay £3 a person, what ever you wanted to do you had to pay for it (except swimming) even then you had to wait until 09.30 before you could go in because the Caravan Owners had priority from 07.30 until 09.30 so an early swim was out of the question. The drinks in the showbar were a little on the expensive side (as expected) and the food was again OK if you like that sort of stuff???!!! The only thing for the older kids to do was spend money in the Arcade of hire out karts of bikes again a cost. The entertainment was OKish and my god was it loud, toooo loud for such a small room and again my god was it hot in there...??? Overall, as a place to stay in a caravan it was perfect if you intend to go out each day and visit the surrounding area but if you want to be entertained each night this might not be for you. I would give the site 7.5/10

Went to hopton last year july 2010 for 7 nights, with our 3 children 6,5,3 plus expecting with 4th while on holiday..Overall not a bad place very clean, friendly a good spot if you dont want it in your face all the time, We had very hot sunny weather all week so used in/outdoor pool.. if i could change some things about this place it would be to put a soft play around for the children plus abit more better entertainment but still we all had a good time, and booked to go this year again in july2011, But at the end of the day its how you make the holiday more fun!

“Have just returned from an owners caravan which we...”

★★☆☆☆

written by on 25/08/2010

Have just returned from an owners caravan which we rented in preference to Haven as school holiday prices are ridiculously high £745.00 for a superior caravan. The caravan we stayed in was pleasant although we had 3 unexpected visits from owners on strange pretex obviously checking their van, i had to be quite rude in the end explaining that we really didn't need an extra casserole dish and would rather we were not disturbed! The whole site seems set up for Haven to obtain as much money as possible,a packed club with no seats after 7.30 and constant bingo, character photos, not to mention the £6.00 cost of golf, which has replaced the free childrens area as a so called improvement. Unless you like greasy food, expect to either cook or leave the site, it is disgusting! Again the owners have the upper hand here, my 2 boys were shouted at by several older owners for simply bouncing a ball his site is no longer a site where children are welcome, dogs appear to run freely and outdoor play areas have been removed, it is impossible to take a buggy to the beach along the slope, i also complained about dog mess on the beach but was told to take it up with the council!
Unfortuately after this years experience we will not visit this expensive, unfriendly site again!

Park has turned into old peoples golfing and bowls centre, nothing for children to play on, now catering for mainly adults, food is bad, when we were there the queue for swimming pool was 40 deep, they only allow 105 people in at a time, one out one in sytem is used, and to cap it all there was a woman fully clothed using the pool, nothing was said to her at all, and they recon they are sticking to health and safety regulations!!

“This was our 4th Haven Holiday and was the BEST yet....”

★★★★★

written by on 03/10/2009

This was our 4th Haven Holiday and was the BEST yet. My mum and dad booked their holiday at Hopton just from seeing our holiday photo's.(They have just got back Sept. 2009) We've never been disappointed with any of them and Hopton is a lovely landscaped and very clean park. The caravans are all nicely spaced out and the standard was excellent. We booked via the sun newspaper and upgraded to a prestige like we have done in the past and is well worth it. We were on Shorefield, on the second row with a beautiful sea view. Never saw any "rough" looking caravans and the site was spotless. We had a very hot and sunny week (July 2009) which made it even better. Our daughter is 10 and was quite happy spending every day round the outdoor pool for a week. The beaches are clean and because the site is right next to it you don't need toilets, cafes, etc.. to spoil it. Gorleston beach is excellent and a visit to Bewilderwood is a must. We will definately be going back next year and so will my mum and dad.

Been going to Haven Holidays, Hopton for years but this will be my last visit. The site has gone down hill, the management has changed and you can tell. The "new Supermarket" is just an expensive gift shop with no extra food lines. The whole atmosphere has changed. To make it worse I had to drive a 28 mile round trip to find the Jolly Fryer and get decent fish and chips - but they were worth it! Going to Caister next year and suggest you do the same!!!!!

written by maggiep841983 on 14/07/2009

I have just returned from a holiday at haven hopton and I can honestly say it was one of the best holidays myself and my family have had in the UK. Having never been to Great Yarmouth or its surrounding areas before I was a bit apprehensive but as soon as I arrived I knew it was going to be great. The park is set out over a huge space and has spectacular views from the edge of the park. It has three different access points to the beach, the daytime and evening entertainment is fantastic (my daughter is 16 months), the park is very clean and tidy and well maintained and I cannot fault the staff they are so helpful and friendly. We stayed in a caravan and it was spotless and in a beautiful quiet spot. If you need to stay on site it has everyting you need from a convenience store, chinese buffet and take away, two chip shops, mobile burger vans, bar and grill and pizza that cn be delivered to your caravan!! I can definately say we loved every minute - so much so we extended our stay an extra 2 nights - and would recommend to anybody. Well done to everybody at Haven Hopton.

written by havenholidayer on 19/06/2009

I visited Haven Holidays, Hopton with my partner and our 4 year old daughter in June 2009. We stayed in a prestige caravan for a mid week break. The caravan was very clean and had lots of luxury extras such as garden furniture, ensuite bathroom, toaster, dvd player etc. Our caravan was situated at Ocean View and we were right by the sea. There was one row of caravans in front of us and these were owner exclusive and were empty for our whole stay and therefore the area was very quiet and peaceful. The grounds were well kept and litter free. The entertainment complex and the restaurant were not super busy like Riviere Sands was last year. The pool is very nice and the showbar had a really family friendly feel which was good as most of the children were under 5. Also i didn't feel as pressured to buy tickets and pay for things in the showbar as i did last year at Riviere Sands. I would have liked to stay for longer because there was plenty to do and see on and off the park. The village of Hopton has a Somerfield garage which is cheaper than the convenience store and there are 2 tescos and an asda within a short driving distance. I would definately visit again!

“We visited Haven Holidays Hopton at Halloween 2008,...”

★★★★★

written by joshypoppies on 07/04/2009

We visited Haven Holidays Hopton at Halloween 2008, liked it that much we bought a caravan. We stayed in a gold, which was very basic and not proper central heating just warm air blowers which were noisey. Yet we have bought a six year old caravan its got double glazing, central heating, ensuite shower and toilet and its classed as a standard plus! (just because its not new!) Over the years if I had realised when booking with Haven, as we always go for prestige for the heating, we could have phoned the park direct and request a standard with heating and saved loads!
