Written on: 30/11/2007

My 835 would not cycle 2nd shell after initial shot due to poor craftsmanship of several internal parts. It required minor resurfacing of a couple of contact areas with a dremel tool to solve the feeding issues. It appears to now function as designed but certainly cost me… Read Full Review

not for nothing, but what shells were you using? i have both the 835 ultimag and a maverick arms model 88 (mossberg 500) and neither of them will shoot winchester game loads (2 3/4" - 3 1/4 dram eq. - 1 oz - # 8). the shell casings are too thin and buldge in a pump gun enough to lock the shell in the chamber and jam the hell out of the action. so in short, may not be the gun, could've been the ammo...

Written on: 25/11/2007 by emichaud (1 review written)

My gun has given me a lot of reliable service and was not expensive. Because it was so inexpensive, my day isn't ruined if the gun takes a dunk in the salt marsh. I hose it off, blow it out, drench it with WD-40, put it back together and I am ready to take it out the next time.
With the variety of shotguns availible today in the 3.5 inch chamber, I am not sure I would pick the Mossberg again. But I can't say I have been disappointed with the performance it has given me. This is a good gun… Read Full Review

I purchased an 835 a few years ago mainly because of the price. I quickly found out that you really do get what you pay for. When I took that gun to a local dove field I experienced a lot of cycling problems. Either the shell (a 2.75) would get stuck in the chamber or the ejector would have problems taking the shell out of the chamber causing a double feed. Needless to say, it made for a miserable day. The same happened when I decided to give it another chance and took it to a duck impoundment… Read Full Review

Written on: 25/03/2007 by cletus (1 review written)

I bought a new Mossberg Turkeygun the 500 about 10 years ago. I killed countless turkeys, rabbits, squirrels. When my son turned 17 it became his. That gave me a reason to buy a new 835 ultra mag. I have had it for 3 years it has never gave me any trouble. Although it's not very bench friendly when it comes to pattering with a 3 1/2 in… Read Full Review

I disagree with this review because from my experience and all my friends experience it just isn't that reliable of a gun.

Written on: 13/01/2007 by Len412 (2 reviews written)

I was away from home and used a friends Mossberg 835 on a hunting trip. The pump action reminded me of mixing cement and the cycle of the second round failed twice. I didn't realize I would miss my Winchester 1300 so much. This gun ruined the trip for me… Read Full Review

Written on: 16/11/2006 by bowyer20 (1 review written)

Regretably I had some problems with this gun with potential safety hazards. The first problem is with the synthetic stock. There seems to be an insufficiant ammount of non-reinforced material on the lower sling eye ...mine broke the first time I hung it on my shoulder. The second problem has something to do with the elevator arm (don't know what though). The gun is prone to ejecting the second unfired shell along with the inital expended round. This is enfuriating if you plan to shoot more than… Read Full Review

I have the same gun you do, this might help you, I did it myself, same problem works great now. with the swivel screw to short i drilled out the threads in swivel cap just to remove the threads same size hole now buy "uncle mikes fine thread swivel set." Go to home depot get a steel nylone locking nut and flat lockwasher insert fine thread swivel with plastic washer that came with the swivels in barrel cap screw put lockwasher and nut on tighten just to the point of lose tight put cap on position eye hole with sling and then put nail or rod threw the swivel hole and tighten with a socket ratchet till it won't bu with swivel attached better than new. Second issue is to complete the action go get some tetra gun grease and hopps gun oil and disassemble the firearm read the manual will tell the rest it works for me great

This is my third season hunting with a Mossberg 835. It cycled great the first 2 years, but now it's starting to wear, and it really cycles hard now. I can see the parts wearing. I clean and lubricate it according to the owners manual.

For only a few dollars more I recommend you buy a Benelli Nova - that is superior!… Read Full Review

Written on: 19/07/2005 by Stephen G (1 review written)

The Mossberg 835 is great for waterfowl. I hunt waterfowl in some nasty conditions and I have never had a problem and when the other hunter can't reach the birds I can. I didn't spend a lot of money so I'm not concerned with getting my gun a little dirt. I enjoy the hunt and never worry about my gun until its time to clean it… Read Full Review

Overall this Mossberg 835 Multi Mag-pump action Sporting Shotgun is a very good gun and I like it. It's great fo the average shooter and really good for hunting. Although you can't shoot slugs out of the barrels that they come with you have to buy the slug barrel but you can shoot buckshot out of it and a 3 1/2 inch 00 Buck coming out of a 28 inch barrel holds a good pattern with a modified choke at 40 yards… Read Full Review

Overall, this is a very good hunting shotgun. Though it comes in an automatic version, the pump has the lesser price for a very good quality of gun. They are sold at just about any gun store.
