“1995 H22A 5 Speed”

★★★★★

written by on 13/03/2013

Pros: ulike other reviewers Iv found and have plenty of aftermarket performance parts. I havnt dyno'd it yet but id say im pushing over 300 HP and 250 torque. Mine has 8PSI boost turbo with standered bolt on's ( headers, intake, Exhaust) Also has a thing called an E Ram connected to the cold aair intake that adds another 1PSI of boost at any RPM. Cat Back Exhaust, Stage 3 racing 6 puck clutch, short throw shifter, and a stage 3 surge chip. Also upgraded to iradium spark plugs which add 10 hp. Looking to get Sparco racing seat and steering wheel. And a nitros express system still. Cons: Back seat is small but I just ripped mine out for weight reduction. My car is 300 pounds lighter. And when I first got the car the O-Rings needed to be replaced which is a pain cause you have to take out the tranny. But Hnda's are known for bad O'Rings. All in All very fun and fast car for the price and lots of afermarket parts you just gotta look at the right places.

“Amazing drivers car for so little money!”

★★★★★

written by ludereview on 06/03/2013

I have owned my gen5 2.2 vti Prelude for approximately a month and I've had a smile on my face since I fisrt drove it. Anyone looking for a true drivers car for peanuts should befinately look in to it. I've had all types of cars, quattro's, MR2's down to sportka's and passats. I currently run a jaguar XJ8-4.0 and I prefer driving the lude. The tiptronic boxes have a reputation so cautious buyer may wat to avoid, but when you're likely to be paying about a grand for one of these cars, why worry!. I personally prefer the tiptronic, the gear changes are very quick and it seems to make for a more engaging drive. The 4 wheel steer is excellent. Grip and handling (good tyres are a must!) is as good as anything you're likley to ever own. Reliability is as expected, excellent, however these cars live in the vtec zone +5000 rpm so regular oil changes are adivsed. My only gripe is the fuel consumption, on longer trips, motorways etc, it is quiet reasonable, however around town dont expect much better than 20 mpg. Rear space for passengers should be treated as storage, and I wouldn't play on taking 4 adults in this car very often. I would not let this put you off, for what you will pay for the car and the reliability and enjoyment it will bring, this is juse a fly in the ointment. If you are serious about your cars you should make an effort to at least drive one, you'll be hooked well beofre you get to the country lane. Treat yourself!!

“Easily the best car I have ever owned”

★★★★★

written by alipoubelle on 14/01/2013

Where to start? have now owned two 4th generation Preludes, the first a jap import - lovely graphite grey, unfortunately not well cared for - so great to drive, very reliable, but a sad example bodyworkwise, decided it wasnt worth keeping on the road Yet.. completely hooked, I then bought a 1996 4th gen beauty, very red, very gorgeous, had been loved and cared for - regular oil changes..all a Honda engine needs really - yes true the rear wheel arches are a problem - bodywork just 2 years ago and its showing again....and any passengers over 6ft have to fold themselves into it, and yes the back seats probably just for show.......do I care?? absolutely not !! This is an amazing car to drive, it grabs the road and handles beautifully...and when the Vtec kicks in, it is the best driving experience ever - will keep it on the road forever, hopefully

“I love my Gen 5 Prelude!!”

★★★★★

written by on 06/03/2012

Owned for approx 6 months now and for a 15 year old car everything still works which is great, it has lovely leather seats, climate control, and is a nice place to be on short or long journeys, but the thing that puts a smile on my face the most is the sound and acceleration of the engine when you push past 5500rpm and VTEC kicks in.... its an awesome feeling. I have owned my fair share of cars over the years, many of them German from turbo pertols to DERV's, but none have handled as well as the Prelude. There is very little body roll and it feels safe and well planted through corners. My car is the 197bhp model and can still achieve 30mpg. The only downfall is the insurance costs can be abit on the high side as it is a group 18 car. Overall if your after a cheap sports coupe that can shift, with a lovely engine note, aswell as being practical then look no further. Just make sure the engine is looked after with regular servicing, timing belt and balance belt changed at 60k and the engine will run and run. Go on.....buy one! :-)

"Luxury Integra Type-R"

Car is quicker than new Type R, Low slung with not much body roll, great in corners, Climate Control, Full Electro-Luminescent Dash is Awesome.

Glove box is literally a glove box (ie big enough for one glove)Rear seats are only good for double amputees.

Best fuel consumption 35 mpg, but this did include some fun driving.

Honda reliability and soooo cheap second hand..... pick one up whilst demand is low.

i now own my first honda prelude, all i can say about the car is,wow he he he,its an amazing car to look at and drive, ive got the jap inport version, for a car of its age to look in my opinion better than most of the newer car is great,it still turns head everywhere i go,and knowing i have nearly 200 bhp to play nice with is fantastic.its a joy to see cars behind me vanish from stand still,i will defo be getting another when the sad days of the scrap yards come, only problem i have with it is the blood sucking efect it has on my wallet, but hey you only live once and spendin life behind a 1.1 fiesta isnt my idea of fun,a 2.2 sounds so much better, get one you will love it

“I bought my Honda Prelude 2.2i VTEC a few years ago...”

★★★★★

written by BookhimDanno on 24/01/2009

I bought my Honda Prelude 2.2i VTEC a few years ago with the idea that it would make a good 'Rally Car' for non forest single venue tarmac rallies.
I stripped out the interior, fitted a cage and all the required safety items, fitted a high flow air filter and a decent exhaust manifold and left everything else totally standard.
In November 2008 did my first rally in it. There were 80 starters including some very exotic cars and we finished the 8 rough stages in 30th place overall on an event that didn't really suit the car so I was well pleased. We didn't lift the bonnet all day and could have driven the car home.
It went really well and stopped well too (I fitted some Black Diamond Pads to the fronts) and the handling was stunning. Backing off quickly provoked lots of oversteer which is just what you want in a competition car and the standard suspension coped with the rough surface really well. I will fit some pro flex bushes before my next event though.
All in all I would recommend the Prelude 4 to anyone who enjoys driving quickly. Sure its not RWD but its just about as rewarding! Try one, You'll love it!

Hmm, Prelude as a Rally car.... I've been looking at the 1800 Integras, mainly due to lighter weight, but may have to consider the Prelude, have one in the drive we were going to sell to help fund my first rally car, but may use it AS my rally car!

It has some unexpected surprises. Seat on driver's side has inflating cushion, and mm precision back rest. The rear speakers are at the perfect angle for sound, the small cabin enables great audio quality, and compared to modern cars, its easy to install ICE.

“I have owned and driven many cars but few put a smile...”

★★★★★

written by snowleopard on 02/09/2008

I have owned and driven many cars but few put a smile on my face in the way a 4th generation Honda Prelude does. I have just sold my BB4 2.2 VTEC import as two adults, three kids and 1 large dog do not fit! But I was gutted to see it go. Mine was highly customised with paint job, aftermarket alloys, lowered, custom exhaust etc etc etc, but you don't need all that to enjoy the wonderful lines of the car, the superb performance, the great sound, the tight handling.
You only need around £1800 maximum to get a wonderfully clean example. The engines are hugely reliable, just look for one that has been serviced well and has had the cam belts done at the correct times. Check also the rear whell arches which are quite prone to rotting. Well worth making sure the inner arch rims are cleaned regularly to avoid rust.
Recommended? Absolutely!

I love my prelude, I've had it for 2 years and its never let me down and it looks great (much better than a Toyota Celica and way cooler than some naff hot hatch). With neally 200bhp on tap its still as quick as most modern compotition. Just buy one you won't be sorry!

“An awesome, awesome car. ”

★★★★★

written by mastacutz on 16/05/2008

An awesome, awesome car.
Back in 2000 a friend of mine showed me his imported Prelude. Never seeing one before, I took one look at the EL back-lit dashboard....I was in love
On my second prelude now, a BB4 lightweight-edition, no ABS/TCS/4WS/sunroof/cruise. A lot of people say the 4wheel-steering version is better but thats silly, the 4wd makes the lude too twitchy. Remove it.
All I can say is if you buy a prelude you'll not be disappointed!
Everytime I get in my lude all I can do is smile; the sound, the feeling, the acceleration...THE VTEC!
Once you hit VTEC @ 5200rpm the prelude stops being ur everyday coupe and turns into a snarling beast...it transforms the feel of the engine...this is where all the power is and the engine just keeps on revving.

My Honda Prelude which my dad gave me is great, even though its a k reg it still runs and looks great, even being an automatic, it still as a lot of power off the mark. Top car, hate driving the family car (Renault Scenic) after driving my beast of a prelude.
