“Sharps Truro”

★★★★★

written by IanFelwick on 04/10/2023

Visited the Sharps Shop in Truro after having a visit from a rep for a quote and although the CAD presentation was good I wanted to see the finish. Being able to visit a shop and seeing the product, the finish and colour was a bonus. The staff in the shop were very helpful and knowledgeable and we found their assistance invaluable. We are now looking to place an order.

“Awful ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Tagman56 on 28/02/2023

Our original fitting date was February 15th. Our original fitter worked for 2 days, and then Friday afternoon left to "get some lunch and more mastic" but never returned or answered calls. Upon inspection of the work it was about as good as if I'd asked a 14 year old to do it not a professional with "15 years fitting experience". We are currently unable to sleep in our bedroom and have been left with this for over 2 weeks now. Supposedly our replacement parts were to be delivered today so I have no idea how the remediation works can be undertaken tomorrow. Personally because this business is all run with sub contractors, it's impossible to hold them to account. If it's not fitted tomorrow I'll be telling them not to bother and will be starting a charge back from the credit card company, thankfully we paid that way and not their finance or a debit card. Would avoid at all costs and use a reputable local trades person like we will be for all the other wardrobes we've had planned.

“If I could rate -0 I would”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Ashleigh14 on 18/02/2023

Had a voicemail left the morning of my appointment cancelling with no name or contact number. When I googled the number and went through to the relevant department the girl was extremely rude and talked all over me before putting the phone down. Shocked, I called back and the other department was nice and apologised, when she put me back though to the booking department the girl was talking to her colleague about me, not realising I’d already got through. When I said hello she purposely mispronounced my last name even though seconds before, I’ve heard her mention my name correctly to another colleague. When I asked to speak to the manager she said it wasn’t possible and she would call back. I did get a call back from the line a manger and she could’ve cared less the way I’ve been spoken to or treated. I told her that the other girl said there wasn’t anyone that works in my area to get another person over today, but the manager said there was someone in my area who was available due to a cancelled appointment that afternoon. When asking what would happen to the girls who was rude to me she got very defensive before putting the phone down on me herself. Never will I use this company again and will strongly ward off anyone that is considering.

“Sharps Bedrooms. Don’t be fooled these are NOT Bespoke”

★★☆☆☆

written by HadOverCustomer on 24/08/2022

This is NOT a bespoke option. You get a choice of cabinets and doors that are then ‘fitted’ into your room. so you get a bespoke fitting of standard units. Our living room unit turned up with the main shelf area, the main part you see at 3.5m cut in half. At no point we’re we told this would be the case. No disrespect to ikea but this ‘bespoke’ unit looks worse than if I had bought two kitchen units and worktops and bolted them together!!! For four times the price. Delivery and instal was delayed with no reason for a week causing extra expenses and changes to other commitments and work. You have to get your own carpet fitter to take up any carpets and put back as Sharps will not do. On assembly, parts are missing and the installer cuts the chip board inside your home covering everything with dust and debris. Please please please go elsewhere for your units. The items look and feel cheap and despite the two desig visits still ignored my request for access ports for media cables.

It's because Sharps buy their units in.. You should have gone to Starplan who have their own factory manufacturing true bespoke units built to order.. I believe they are cheaper too

“Dreadful pricing ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by ejFlanagan223 on 06/08/2022

How can you place an order with this company that still utilizes 'Sharp' practices. My daughter asked for a quote for my granddaughters very small bedroom. The cost £12,000!! If you order within the next 7 days its £7000, but if you order today only £5000, For Gods sake, are they living on a different planet. This practice died out years ago!! So are they trustworthy? Obviously not!! He is alive and well and working for Sharps!! I just want a straight price, not foul play

“Not even had my wardrobe yet and it’s a nightmares ”

★★☆☆☆

written by Harper332 on 20/07/2022

So , not even been fitted yet. 1 ordered wardrobe and freestanding units, 2 colours we ordered were not available and hadn’t been for months, only found this out after deposit paid and the designer had been round. So totally different colours ordered but £250 knocked off the bill. 3 told the second payment would be made on delivery of our wardrobes, but in fact that’s not possible because they haven’t been able to do that for years, and if I’d taken the name of the Un hospitable un sympathetic miserable woman at the head office that called me I’d name her. 4 had an email to say our fitter would be here at 8/9 on the morning, but then had a text message from said fitter saying he wouldn’t be here till 2pm , this is now 6.30 pm the night before , 2 days taken off work because that’s how long it supposed to take to fit them, and the fitter is still on a job which he doesn’t know when he will finish Don’t blame the fitter but this company is totally one to avoid . The whole process from buying our units( £5000 no small amount. ) has been a pain not trustworthy. No confidence in what we will receive either.

“If there was an option for 0 Stars this would have...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by callumharms on 28/04/2022

If there was an option for 0 Stars this would have been one. Value for money - 1/5 Customer Service - 1/5 Fitters - 1/5 Rudeness - 5/5 We have paid nearly £4000 for a small fitted wardrobe as we didn't want a free standing one. The designer made me feel severely uncomfortable in my own home. Although he was polite, he was pushy and told us we couldn't get a wardrobe from anywhere else and we would have no choice. After having a massive panic attack, he left after pushing us both through the finance because we didn't expect it to cost so much. Some time after the surveyor came to take more measurements and then only showed us the plans. We were rushed for signatures on all pages for him to then leave the house promptly, ensuring he's secured our money and business. What the surveyor had missed was very important information, the duration. Nothing was explained to us regarding how long it would take and looking at the small space, it's something that could have easily been done in a working day. Well... We were wrong and more on this later. The materials started to arrive. They respected the property and my newly fitted and expensive carpets by putting down sheets on some of the floor, not all. They've put holes in my newly decorated walls up the stairs and marked other walls on their way. You could say "like a bull in a china shop" style. Then our fitter arrived. Turned up just before 8:30, which I was happy with, meaning this could be completed in time. Then went off for a lunch break for 30 minutes around 12:30 until 13:00, which is fine, we need to eat. He then came back for a whooping 2 hours and finished his day just after 15:00, leaving the room in a complete mess. This is the only room we can sleep in and we can't. I called Sharps and was pushed pillar to post to get to the right department about this and she was nothing but rude, impatient, defensive and unprofessional. I explained my situation, but somehow she managed to make this my fault. With a backhanded apology she thought this would be acceptable. I explained, we were unable to sleep in the room and we had no where to go. Numerous times, she mentioned that "says it can take up to 2 days in your contract, which the surveyor would have told you". Of course, their precious surveyors do everything they are suppose to. Not once were we told about this, we were just rushed for signatures, shown the drawings and then left waiting. Additionally, the number of days could have included the date when the materials were placed in our way, stopping us from moving around the master bedroom and causing health and safety issues. 2 full nights we had to work around this as it was delivered stupidly early. Now, going back to "friendly" advisor. She would speak over me when I'm trying to explain my upsetting situation, reiterating that my critically ill wife doesn't need this stress and needs a place to sleep tonight. She did mention we could put the bed back ourself, but as stated in the so called "Contract" it mentions we need assistance with moving the bed - so this is impossible. When I mentioned to her that I could try and put the bed back, but the fitter will need to move it, she claimed due to health and safety, he wouldn't be able to do this and then goes on to tell me to move his machinery, tools, bench and the materials left in the room. So no health and safety concerns for their customers and would happily let them move heavy items on their own. (I've attached a screenshot showing evidence with their assistance required) Furthermore, after getting absolutely no where with the advisor, and what seemed like I was going round on the same Ferris Wheel at this Sharps Carnival, I asked to speak to a manager. Well, You could tell the hairs were up on her back when she joined the call. Ready to defend the title of sh + it customer service. She just said the same stuff  in just a more moody tone of voice, which just made the matters worse. I honestly do NOT recommend Sharps, because the only thing Sharp you'll experience is a knife in your back and a hole in your wallet.

“Waste of Money”

“Terrible experience”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Rowlandb on 01/04/2022

We've had a very bad experience with Sharps. The first fitter was very bad and left the two wardrobes unfinished with a panel bowed, shelves cut incorrectly, lights in the wrong place, doors not adjusted and very poor scribing. The second fitter resolved the issues over the course of a long day but noticed some hinges had been damaged and ordered replacements. The replacements arrived but were completely wrong (Sharps attempted to blame that part on me), so the third fitter had to be called off. The job was originally supposed to take 3 days, its been 3 weeks and still not finished. The customer services team have been poor and the general level of incompetence is shocking for a company like this. PLEASE research alternative and smaller local companies as they seem to try harder!

“Not enough advisory”

★★★☆☆

written by VeraLinsdell on 18/03/2022

I wish there was more walk through of the dimensions and accommodation of the shelving units per our needs rather than us sticking to standards that Sharp can provide with. I was hoping for more flexibility and design advice than we received.

“100% failure rate”

★☆☆☆☆

written by VM91 on 15/03/2022

We recently had custom wardrobes fitted/built in by Sharps for the second time. The first time round, they completely messed this up - the consultation was poor, they delivered the wrong parts and whoever fitted the parts must have been on drugs. After paying a small fortune on everything, it still looks messy even after lots of back and forth with Sharps. Now, when we recently needed the wardrobe units extended we had no option but to go back to Sharps to fit the style of the existing ones. And the mess continued: On the day of fitting, the (very competent, probably because not Sharps internal) handyman noticed that most of the technical drawings were wrong. We had also been advised incorrectly on the setup of the new units next to the existing ones. Finally, the drawings clearly indicated a built in desk with a drawer. Neither had Sharps delivered the correct parts for this nor had they instructed the handyman to build it. Luckily, the handyman did an incredible job and rectified as much as he could. But the job could not be finished due to missing parts for the desk; and we still have no clue when this can be done. We reached out to Sharps the same day with an urgent request to explain and rectify this mess. All we got was an empty promise they would come back within 48 hours. This is completely unacceptable. The repeated mess they've caused us paired with the utter incompetence of their customer service team is beyond anything I have ever seen from a self proclaimed high-end products/services provider. At least they should have the decency to call, apologise and reassure us. I'm guessing they're not doing that because there isn't much to reassure about. Avoid at all cost if you want so save yourself a headache and a lot of money.

“Great product but disappointed with the service.”

★★★☆☆

written by Harvington on 06/03/2022

My parents both in the 80s recently had wardrobes fitted in two bedrooms of their new house. The product is superb, but very disappointingly the fitters just pulled back the carpet and left it, my Father had to make safe the carpet so they could go to bed, and has had to book a carpet fitter to come and refit the carpet. He was then left with all the rubbish for which he was sent a link by which he could arrange for its collection which I had to do. The collection services was superb, but why could the fitter not of done that and simply asked what day was convenient for the collection. It was that simple, but not for someone in their 80s. Like I say we are very pleased with the product, but the overall experience should have been so much better, especially when you take into consideration the price. I don’t think it’s unreasonable to be able to expect a full service.

“Avoid ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by MarcelSchaefer on 01/03/2022

I have sadly ended up with cheap, tacky overpriced wardrobes that make IKEA look like a luxury brand. I am looking forward to having these removed. A regretful decision to have chosen Sharps. I strongly advise you to seek better quality wardrobes elsewhere which will provide good value for money and a more respectful customer service. A cash grabbing organisation, be careful.

“Racist and poor service ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Ana98 on 24/01/2022

It's shocking to read how other people have had the same experience, I wonder if it's with the same Eueopean guy? He was racist and made sniggering comments whilst we were explaining to him what we wanted. And we had the same response as other reviewers commented; him making accusations that we couldn't afford it and being undermining and patronising. It was absolutely disgusting. Not surprisingly he messed up our measurements and now our wardrobes are not at all easy to use.Last time we part with a large sum of money with this company.

“Awful company do not use”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Nolad47 on 10/01/2022

Awful. Designer couldn’t be bothered clearly. Had already decided we couldn’t afford the service. Kept asking if we “have any idea how much it will cost” and pushing us to choose a cheaper option. He was rude. Arrogant. Questioning our every decision. When we tried telling him our needs, he kept trying to tell us we “don’t really need that” and was an absolute idiot to be honest. It’s sad because we were so looking forward to having a creative designer with us and he wasn’t at all creative or interested in listening. He kept calling our current bedroom units “cheap crap” and when I asked for more depth of a table, insisted he was giving me more than my “cheapo” current desk, I literally had to insist he measure it, at which point he realised he had measured the same depth as my current “cheap crap” desk and wasn’t infact giving me more depth as I had asked. Was wrong. And had to increase the measurement as I had asked. Who would have thought, the person living in the house, would actually know what they require? We came up with a design ourselves and then he simply wrote a long list of numbers with no relevance or indication as to what they were in relation to, ending with a 4 digit figure over £6k and then kept saying “oh I forgot something” and write down another number or two to add on. At this point I’d like to say we could more than afford to go ahead, but honestly had no idea what we were paying for, and the end number was really over inflated, though we may have not thought so if he’d told us what we were actually paying for. He drew using a biro and when he left we noticed biro marks on our VERY expensive solid wood table. Note they only build you a skeleton, there is no back to wardrobes. The wall is the back. So for such a basic set up with no service, creativity and very very basic finishes of MDF you’d expect some itemisation at least with a little idea of what you’re paying for… overall an absolute horrible experience with a company that profiles you before even talking to you.

Fizzknows's Comment

It would be interesting to know if it was the same person who came to visit my property today. Yes definitely agree with them deciding I couldn’t afford the wardrobes before they came to the appointment. I’ve worked in sales and this guy gave me a price ten seconds after walking into the room without measurements, showing me different ranges or mentioning prices for different ranges. Then wanted me to confirm the price was going to be ok, almost like he wanted me to say no so he could leave. He measured up but didn’t write out any quote and emailed me a drawing and price for two bedrooms. There was no breakdown of price and I just thought the way the whole appointment went was absolutely unprofessional and misleading because the vouchers I was sent in the post were not mentioned in the appointment or the quote. I honestly would have happily parted with my money because of the brand but I think the company is a sham after reading reviews and would rather give my money to a local reputable company than them. Thanks for your review because now I know I wasn’t imagining things. Hope you got better luck elsewhere :)

“Shoddy unfit tor purpose”

written by Lynrobins on 22/11/2021

2 day fitting turned into 3 full days no dust sheets damaged walls. Damaged doors on wardrobes No support on shelves., damaged shelves, wrong size shelf so not able to access properly Wrong covers on screws used where put on Where there was mastic it was put on over sawdust. Wardrobes left full of sawdust. New top and bottom plinth required as well! The room was fully cleared as requested but then all stuff moved onto landing leaning against doors. Marks over brand new carpet. No dust givers over shows in and up stairs with dirty shoes I was asked the usual send photos had to insist on visit from them. Sales manager came out and noted faults. Yet another 2 days one for delivery another for ‘repairs’ required this week. Today I was going to repair all the walls and skirtings as damaged prio to the next ‘fitting’ and found yet another chipped shelf. When I called up to make an official complaint put onto planning department and left hanging on the phone with no reply Save yourself the trouble go elsewhere

You pay a deposit Then a good part of it as thet deliver the parts. Leaving 10% as a final payment. That said Sharps would be the LAST company i would us. !!! If you have any problem with the final fitting just dont want to know.

Yes,we did.20%. The total cost of your order is usually divided into 3 payments:deposit ( 20%),payment at delivery of materials (70%) and fitting cost (10%).

You need to be specific about where the wardrobe is located. It may not be a problem specific to Sharps. Any wardrobe located on an outside wall is susceptible to condensation and damp especially in the autumn and winter but your supplier should have brought this to your attention. Also it depends if you have had cavity wall insulation installed (if the wardrobe is on an external wall) as that may have some bearing.
Report this content DavidBirkland Written on: 30/12/2014
Condensation is created when warm moist air comes on contact with a colder surface. The introduction of fitted wardrobes will have no bearing on this unless it has introduced air moisture (cannot see how), reduced the room/wall temperature (covered or removal of radiator, or on an outside wall which has no or poor insulation as the reduced air flow within the wardrobe can 'draw through' the moisture giving a damp effect or even mould. Obviously the solution is to restore the status quo by increasing heat or airflow. It may also help by placing a moisture catcher box available from most DIY stores.
Report this content drudge Written on: 30/12/2014
Agedman. Yes is an outside wall. And no Sharps did not mention this at all. Trying to resolve the matter with them all i get is " a lifestyle issue". I have put a heat source inside the wardrobe as Sharps suggested to no avail. Still the same . My problem is Sharps will not even discuss the problem all you get is you signed off. The problem clearly only came to light as the wardrobes started to get used.
