“Just Don't Bother”

Written on: 21/06/2013 by lilyneverless (1 review written)

After registering with Hays as a classroom supervisor back in March, it took them a total of 9 weeks to gather a total of 7 references (work), 2 character references, one of which was hounded for my work dates??? and I mean hounded (up to 4 emails per day for over a week, and now in the end of June they are back asking for more references?! How many do they need?? I have been working in schools for the last 10 years, ...... but to top it all off they placed me 40 miles away from home (I know I… Read Full Review

“Arrogant, legalised pimping”

Written on: 18/06/2013

Was registered with them for a job as I needed work, role was stated as PA and a senior level within the healthcare environment. Role was an office junior and I was treated by the "client" badly, patronised, ignored, and when I raised this with the manager who told me that "they were busy and I needed to suck it up". One "manager" was keen on humiliating staff (ok temps!) across the office. When I raised this with hays I was told that "am I sure its not just Friday issues" Company now… Read Full Review

“Dont waste your time!”

Written on: 17/06/2013

I don’t really have much to say about Hays Recruitment other than they are completely useless. I have 13 years’ experience in Admin, I have applied for numerous positions including positions for office juniors, basic reception jobs and jobs which I am fully suited to and mentally equipped to carry out, do I hear anything from them “never”. All I do is apply, apply, and to no avail. Not even a response to my application. Why is it Hays that seems to have all the positions advertised… Read Full Review

Totally agree. Like you, I am highly qualified and the positions I have been applying for are totally within my capability and some half the salary. It seems to me that if at any point you don't take a job they offer you, they then try and punish you by not returning your calls, failing to respond to emails and just generally acting unprofessionally, to the point of lying and saying consultants are not around, when you can clearly tell they are.

I will not be applying for any further NHS or other positions with them. I hope some of the recruitment staff never find themselves in a position where they have to look for work, as they seem to have a distinct inability to think outside of the box and recognise career changers and hardworking people when they recognise them.

Quite sad and pathetic, really, when that is the business they are in...Was going to make an official complaint to their management, but I think I will just end up more frustrated; therefore, on this occasion, I will just leave it...

I also agree that they - like many other agencies - clearly do not have the jobs they advertise available, but rather, it is a repetitive ruse to make people register...Very frustrating and I also would never, ever recommend them to a soul...

“Worst Experience of My Life”

Written on: 14/06/2013 by debasser (1 review written)

Registered to Hays recruitment by mistake, through what I thought was an application for a job. Got a phone call from them, wanting to arrange a meeting to discuss job possibilities. I agreed to this meeting as I needed work . Got a phone call later the same day, the agent explained that they had arranged for me to have a phone interview for a job the next day. I knew nothing about the position and I expressed no interest in it. I undertook the interview but did not pass through to the next… Read Full Review

Boosubkitty's Response to debasser's Review

Written on: 24/06/2013

I have had several successful administration placements via Hays Recruitment at Wollongong, and found their staff to be very helpful and proactive in presenting opportunities.

Of course they are working for the commissions, after all, it's the businesses seeking staff that pay for their services, so it's only right that those businesses are the 'clients' that hold top priority.

Hays does not charge the jobseekers who register with them, instead they providing a job placement service free of charge. They manage an extensive and constantly changing database of potential staff, none of whom pay them for their efforts, but all of whom want the 'right job, right now' (and no doubt bombard their recruiter with constant requests for a status update).

Be grateful that they found you an interview opportunity so quickly and put you forward for a companies consideration based only on the merits of your written application. It might not have been your ideal job at the time, but a willingness to grasp any opportunity is a valuable quality in any jobseeker and would have shown them that you were willing to try.

You say you knew nothing about the role, but since your interview was the following day, you could have used a number of resources to research both the company and the advertised role. That would have shown both Hays and the employing company that you had drive, initiative, and a determination to work.

If you couldn't be bothered to try, why should they?

“Rude, arrogant, deceitful and manipulative”

I think that sums it up. They are not suddenly going to change for the better, the culture in the company will ensure this.I wish I has read these reviews before going through the painful process that dealing with this company has been. The only action is to not register with them therefore they will not make money and go broke.Take your talents, experience and self esteem elsewhere. “Hounded with calls”

Written on: 06/06/2013

I've made a massive mistake. I registered with Hays yesterday and have been hounded with calls since. 12 in all. The consultant also said she had arranged me an interview for Friday, but when I looked into it it was for a job I wasn't interested in. She then left 5 ,essayed on my mobile, one very rude telling me to tell my current employer I was taking Friday off to go to the interview for job I am not interested in. I don't like being hounded and told which jobs to go for. It is MY career not… Read Full Review

“Stay away from Hays!”

Hays have really lost their mojo and my advice to anyone thinking of using them think twice! They are a complete waste of time and the consultants I have dealt with have been rude and very unprofessional to the point I was told to visit recruitment agencies on the high street with the big windows. My dealings with Hays in the past have always been professional but unfortunately not this time!… Read Full Review

“Absolutely awful firm!”

Written on: 02/05/2013

I received a call from Hays after applying for a job online. The guy seemed nice, said he had seen my CV, they had already filled the position I was applying for, but a firm I had previously worked for were looking for someone. He then had me chasing my tail all day, calling every half hour, getting me to tweak this and that on my CV until it was the way he wanted it, and finally said he had 30 minutes to get mine and another two CVs round to the Office Manager at the firm concerned, as they… Read Full Review

Sorry to hear about your experience, that's shocking!
I am in the process of going through the exact same thing, so I feel your pain! Thanks for posting this, I plan on contacting the manager of the office of the guy I was contacted from, and if I don't get the answers I'm looking for, I'm going to take it to the head offices! People can't be allowed to get away with stuff like this!!!

You will bang your head, they will not listen. Not until employers take a firm stance against these parasites of the working world.
Many HR departments are to blame in large companies. They think they know best., when in fact they do not have a clue about the position they are trying to fill. I went for a interview recently, its was HR led. Mainly HR questions. I think this says some thing.
Until employers get it to right nothing will change.

“Don't waste your time”

Incompetent staff; rude on the telephone and half the time have no idea what they're talking about. Have sent me off to interviews after providing incorrect job descriptions (So interview was a complete waste of time). Have not assisted in any way shape or form with the job hunt; and have actually told me that I don't have 'relevant experience' for jobs that are effectively a summarised version of my CV. You begin to question if they ever read what you send them. Do yourselves a favour, save… Read Full Review

“Why I tell people to stay the hell away from Hays.”

Written on: 15/04/2013

After my first two months as a "temp worker" with Hays Recruitment UK, I am fairly certain that this will be my last assignment with them. I like my job, but I really wish I had applied for it through Blueprint or any of the other agencies my colleagues work for, as they haven't had any of the hassle I have had right from the start. According to the interviews, I was to be paid for 40 hours a week. Even my contract says 40 hours, but I only get paid for 37.5. When I pointed this out, the only… Read Full Review

Hays will say and do anything to get out of a tight spot. They are not to be trusted at any cost. Avoid this agency. They are 100% focused on their commission, and have little or no regard for their contractors. I was told by the Principle Contractor that I had a job, actually I was specifically requested for the position. Hays however, at the last minute told me they had found a more qualified candidate, this is untrue, as I have checked the qualifications of the successful candidates, and… Read Full Review

Twice they have called as they've seen my CV on line and twice they hang up on me. I'm 100% sure it was the same guy. Absolutely disgusting. Yep, they promise you as in my case a job in a month. One year after enrolling with them, they haven't called me once. When I did phone them on one occasion I was told the person ie conslutant was "too busy to call me", as truee as I've typed it they were the exact words. Quota filling is all agents are interested in and quick filling get their commision short term roles. No focus on the client ie you or me whatsoever. Half the jobs advertised are"pulled" ie they don't exist in the first place!
