“Job at hays? No thanks ”

Written on: 11/01/2014

I feel I have to let anyone looking to join hays as a recruitment consultant to know about the very poor initial interview I had this morning with one of the internal recruiters of staff in the Cardiff branch. At my complete shock and dismay the interview was to be cut off by ........... for apparently not yet knowing the core values on Hays as a business and her self assuming that I haven't done enough re-search on the business. Which to be honest is a complete joke. I did explain my role as… Read Full Review

I have been a registered user of Hays for over 10 years in the ACT. In 2013 I got back in touch with Hays to seek temporary/contract or full time work in administration in government or private industry. I thought 16 years administrative experience as an EA/Senior Administrator would be something they could work with. I was bitterly disappointed. I have sent applications to one consultant which has been ignored. I have been denied the opportunity to come and meet with a consultant face to face to discuss options. I have been made to feel that my experience accounts for nothing and told that my skills "are not current enough" as an EA despite working for senior level executives in Federal PS and local PS. I feel discriminated against for having the audacity to have a child that requires my time. If anyone is looking for work seriously and wants to be treated with respect refer to Wizard. They will listen to your needs, assist you with your applications, provide access to training and above all else - will not ignore you and treat you with disrespect. I think Hays leaves a lot to be desired and certainly not an agency I will be recommending to anyone in the future. I have been out of work for 10 months seeking opportunities and their best advice? Apply directly for roles.

“Hays (Bradford) Lies”

Written on: 08/01/2014 by whatchutalkinbout (2 reviews written)

The job was describe to me as being administration, turned out to be receptionist work. Was also told it would be for 6 weeks and that turned out to be 3 weeks. I asked if they could help me with information I needed for my working tax credit form and she just replied that's not something I can help you with and hung up on me. After speak to who I presume is the manager there he gave me the number of who to speak to at Hays and they would help me with any information needed. Whilst on the job… Read Full Review

I was provided a temp job by Hays working for a health service in QBN NSW. Upon arriving at the job, there was no clear job description or indication what I would be doing. No credit card for catering purchases - that had to be paid for by you which I refused to do. Another job placement with Hays saw me placed in an unhygienic office where the previous person was on sick leave. The desk was putrid and equipment such as phone in putrid condition also and the SES person walked in without acknowledging my presence, closed his door behind him and 2 hours later walked out and said "Oh I suppose I should say hello". That's what you get when you register with Hays in the ACT.

“No encouragement whatsoever”

Written on: 29/12/2013

All I ever got from Hays was negativity. One person told me that all my qualifications were just basic and probably the most I could ask for is 45,000. Another one asked me about my accent and where it was from? She had a heavy Irish accent herself...maybe hers is permissible compared to mine? It is American by the way. It is very disheartening to be told all this when I have been working consistently most of my life, probably before they were born. I understand that some of the jobs are… Read Full Review

Hello, I went to register with a different recruitment agency last week known as Tate.

Some people tend to discriminate based on the way someone speaks or acts, the person who invited me to register was pretty sure that he could get me out to work as soon as this week when we spoke over the phone and he asked me to come in at short notice.

When I walked through the doors of this agency, I asked for the individual. I was early they asked to comeback in 15 mins to complete paper work. I went off when I got back after 15 mins the receptionist asked me to take a seat, someone else came over and asked me what I am therefore, I told them that I was called to come in to register. Then that person told me to come back after 5 or 10 mins, I decided to wait the consultant I came to see came and saw me. When I briefly spoke to him he asked me to tell me about myself, I was a very nervous because of the short notice so I couldn't speak well. The next comment that he made was there are better people out than me and time is precious. He then told me to think about what I want to and then told me to contact him in a couple of weeks. As I walked out of the door he swore at me when he was speaking to the receptionist.

Since he told me that there are better candidates than me I sent him an email yesterday and told him that there are better recruitment agencies, thanked him for arranging to meet and waste my time, and told him that I guess the difference between the best and the worst agencies is that the best have excellent customer service. The guy emailed back and tried to convince me that they are the best in the business.

I had the same experience. Despite 16 years administrative experience, 91wpm with 98% typing accuracy, having gained a Cert IV HR Mgt qualification, experience providing transcription services - so much experience and to be told my EA experience is not current enough, not recent enough to be competitive. They wouldn't even put me forward. I was told that I was competing against people who had recent EA experience which would discount me. I was also asked about how old I was, if I had children and where I lived which is discriminatory.

I agree. Try Wizard. They might have much to place you in, but for the respect and consideration of your individual circumstances was refreshing for me. Hays should not be in operation. They look after the employers needs only and bypass the employees needs.

“Terrible attitude”

Written on: 10/12/2013

Applied for a job I came across, however after applying I telephoned the Glasgow office to find out more information and to also see if this job would be suitable for me, as the text in the advert was very limited. No one phoned me back. I then received a promising call from a Victoria on the Tuesday saying she was really keen to put me forward for this job and would hope to get me an interview by the end of this week. When I emailed checking progress she kept telling me hadn't heard back from… Read Full Review

“Do not deliver”

Written on: 09/12/2013 by Straightup (1 review written)

I was talked into using Hays after having lost faith in agencies completely. Not only did the representative I met not have the where with all to understand my work experience, he also had the audacity to question my integrity as to what I had done. I supplied him with very good references from key positions I'd had with international companies, but because they didn't understand my industry (Tun Key Energy), they questioned to the point of belittling it. And to add insult to injury, after… Read Full Review

“Superb, Honest and pay far higher than the normal rates...”

Written on: 08/12/2013

Absolutely outstanding service, the staff are so polite and honest and treat the candidate like a VIP...I booked an appointment with Hays Portsmouth on Monday. I arrived 10 mins early to find the recruitment manager just finishing rolling out the red carpet. He said, Sorry sir, we weren't expecting you just yet as he handed me glass of champagne. Ok they were rude and poor but I guess you already knew this. If you ask them to remove your details from their system they don't either… Read Full Review

“Most incompetent company I've dealt with.”

Written on: 06/12/2013

Strung me along for over 6 weeks, dangled a job infront of me, gave me all the packs and info, then 2 days before the interview, told me that actually, they had made a "mistake" and I didn't have the interview after all. These clowns are the most unprofessional outfit I have ever had the missfortune to deal with. If they have the audacity to ever phone me again, they will get an earfull… Read Full Review

“HAYS SHOULD BE SHUTDOWN!!!!”

Written on: 04/12/2013

Got called in for an interview... about 5 mins before my appointment my consultant scheduled a meeting, she raced through the info with me and left me to fill forms in. She agreed that I would go for a Medical my booked time was 7:45am just down the road from their office. I live a fair distance away from the city so I got their at 7:15 and they weren't open. Waited and got it done though. I had to complete a load of inductions so I did. The next day I received a call saying my uniform was… Read Full Review

“Never hear back from them”

Written on: 20/11/2013

They are useless!!! I have used a few recruitment agencies who are very good BUT HAYES IS NOT ONE OF THEM. I have sent in my resume and interest on a couple of jobs in different locations and have NEVER had a return email or a consultant call back. When I did get through to someone in the office she simply said, "well did you register online" - yes I had...and I am still waiting for a return call… Read Full Review

DO NOT USE HAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I received an email from a Woman @ Hays advising she had found me a job and was I interested - the job details were good so signed onto their books, the emails I received from this woman were awful - spelling mistakes and errors throughout - very professional!! When I had an interview arranged this woman laid it on think how hard she worked to get me the interview, on the morning of the interview my own employer became aware I was looking elsewhere so… Read Full Review

“JUST PLAIN STUPID”

Written on: 25/10/2013 by nic_cannon41 (1 review written)

Owning a small construction firm for national and some international contracts, we have a vast array of experienced graduates ranging from engineering to architecture in the midlands. Staff both present and former have usually been very good, however the HR side of personnel is not my forte. So I contacted a 'recruitment firm' in Leicester which i may add seems to be an overrated megalomaniac firm who employ graduates who themselves seem to have never held a proper job/career elsewhere. “Working for Hays kinda feels like being mugged! ”

Written on: 20/10/2013

What can I say they will mess up your pay and when you call them up on it they will continue to ignore you. I worked for them 6 weeks ago and still haven't been paid! If you like working for free then Hays is the recruitment Agency for you. The staff are very unprofessional, they ignore your calls, emails, and when you ask to speak to a manager they tell you he's in a meeting. It's shocking that this company operates in England. Please do yourself a favour and stay away. Very unprofessional… Read Full Review

“Worst agency to contract for in the UK”

Written on: 17/10/2013

Interviews like apprentice but communication/information incorrect and last minute. They make mistakes with your pay, they drag their feet when resolving pay issues (can take days and weeks), Staff do not bother to call back, they will avoid your calls and emails, when staff do.... they often get annoyed when you point out their maths is incorrect (again, they will not engage in any escalation to Managers. oh,...and when you sack them they will take 3weeks to pay the "holiday" pay they take(so… Read Full Review

“Worst of the worst”

Written on: 03/10/2013

I have been on Hays books now for years. To be honest, I'm not sure why, I think it is mainly due to not bothering to get them to remove my details. In all that time, I have never gotten contract work through them: it has always been through other, more professional recruiters. During my time with them, I have applied for a number of positions, but they have ALWAYS managed to do something to screw it up, from little things like not forwarding the covering letters they have asked me to write… Read Full Review

I agree!

From the outset they have been hopeless. Never put me forward for roles, and never return calls.

They are quick fill, churn them out recruiters. I'm shocked they have any organisations as clients.
