Mossberg Model 500 is VERY reliable. I got all sorts of ice and grit in the action, let it freeze, and pumped a round in it and shot it about 5 rounds through it with no problems.
Good for leftys. It has a ambi safety.
Good solid construction.

Despite not being as nicely finished/fitted as the Remington 870, the Mossberg 500 is nevertheless the equal in terms of reliability, perhaps superior when it's ergonomics are factored into a comparison. (read more)

No good points about this gun......if you want a pump get an 870 supermag or if you want a tactical ap...then the 870 marine mag.
The trigger sucks...dosen't line up well and dosen't feed right and is just terrible. (read more)

I have owned Remington 870's, Winchester Defenders and Browning BPS's. To be totally honest, on occasion all of the above have had feeding problems. I now carry a Model 500 "Mariner" using 12 gauge slugs for protection against four legged predators in remote areas of BC, Canada. The 500 has been fed many different brand names of slugs, birdshot and buckshot without a problem. I require a firearm that is reliable and the Mariner fits the bill.
