I've been with many of the other nightmare hosting companies (see webfusion, 123-reg) etc. 123-reg even started using my credit card to make domain renewals without my authorisation, but that's another story.
Fasthosts are not in this category. Their hosting is upfront. They are not out to get more money from you.
I've encountered NO problems after 2 years and have transferred new accounts in to them.
I recommend Fast hosts for a good, consistent low priced hosting from a large company.

On the basis that when something goes wrong they made little effort to sort it out, so I will never use them again. They double billed me and obtaining a refund was a nightmare. My dedicated server down for a fourth day, Fast Hosts don't answer phones and are not replying to my emails - except to say there services are fully functional.

They have absolutely no support whatsoever, and are ridiculously expensive, especially considering how cheap and good US hosting services are.
Anything you ask (even if it's their fault) and they will charge £70 on your credit card immediately. Without doing any work. Yes. That's right. It's called "personal engineer service" and applies to anything, and costs £120 an hour plus VAT. They say "we'll refund it if it turns out to be our fault". Last night, not for the first time since I've been with Fasthosts, the server went down for around 5 to 6 hours. So my site was down virtually all night.
Today they have claimed it was back up at 9pm well mine wasn't.
Whenever this has happened I have never had an apology or an email explaining what went wrong, last night was no different. In my opinion they treat customers like dirt. I would not recommend Fasthosts to anyone.

During the day you can expect very long phone queues.
When things go wrong they claim: "we don't have access to the information".
When asked how long a major problem will take to fix, they say: "we don't have access to the information".
They limit the bandwidth of incoming traffic to 1mbs.
When I was on a Tear 1 connection I still got time out messages when sending stuff to there server.

I have posted here before and have managed very painfully to now close all but two of my accounts and thought that since March things may have improve/ changed. Simply out I can't access my control panels, Technical put me on hold for 6 mins and then the call was 15 minutes only to be told this was a known issue. My temper flared again with them. When I recently contacted them asking them politely to please refund some money they had taken from my card without permission for something I did not ask for (or require), they basically told me to go fly...
I then got a little more forceful and told them that I would contact my card company and report it as THEFT. Expecting them to simply do the right thing, Fasthosts in return threatened ME with "punitive fee's" if I went ahead and REPORTED THEM !!!

I am still trying to close my account after they took £23.50 from my account when they shouldn't have.
I contested this with my bank, and FastHosts now want another £60 for doing so, and they won't shut the account until I pay, despite having a years money in advance for a system I can't use and don't want, on top of their £23.50 'penalty' charge for 'debt recovery'; ie. an automated email sent because their site would not allow me to change card details… Read Full Review

I only use a basic home package from Fasthosts, for £4.99 per month, which for my needs at the moment is fair enough! I get webmail and FTP connection for that. I went with Fasthosts because they came highly recommended by a trusted friend.
Initially I thought they were quite expensive compared to other hosting companies - but they were very helpful and in the beginning; they were very reliable.
After a few months Fasthosts change their pricing structure and I took another hosting package with them, this time on one of their Linux servers. I went for the cheapest option.

I had been with FastHosts for about a year when I had to change my debit card due to wear and tear. A month later I noticed that my website was down, and I could not access my email. I received spam promoting a site hosted on their servers. I contacted their abuse team and got no reply. I then called their customer services and their line is that as long as the email didn't originate from their network, they are not concerned as they can't 'prove' the email campaign was instigated by the site promoted in the email!

I have a Linux dedicated server running Fedora with FastHosts web hosting. I have been with them for 3 months. The last month has been dreadful.
Updates controlled through FastHosts wiping out PHP class files, and down times that break their service level agreements. The update lost me 2 and 1/2 days, as they have no engineer support at the weekend - losses into thousands. No apology, no communication and no one who knows what they are doing.
