“food was lovely but the service was crap!!!!! ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by shan31 on 19/03/2016

The food was lovely! I couldn't fault them with that but the service was terrible! It took them 20 mins to take our plates away and then a further 10 mins to bring a drinks menu! When we was sitting at the table for 20 extra mins we had enough of waiting and payed at the bar and left! We would of stayed for more drinks but the survive was so slow! I would understand if the restaurant was packed but it wasn't the manager and staff were too busy talk amongst each other to notice that the had customers sitting and waiting for them to finish talking! I've had better service from other la tasca branches and didn't expect this!!!!! This has deeply upset us!!!!! Would I recommend a friend?? HELL NO!!!!!

“La Tasca”

★★☆☆☆

written by Kumar_Chauhan on 08/08/2012

My girlfriend and I have been going to La Tasca now for a couple of years and overall our experience has not been that bad. The food has been acceptable without ever being extraordinary. My main complaint is that I’m not sure how much of their food is freshly made on site, I get the feeling many things are prepack and just heated up at the different restaurants (no really in keeping with the whole fresh Spanish tone). You may ask if this was my opinion then why did I keep going back, well that is because my girlfriend happens to be vegan and it was somewhere that we could go eat together that offered suitable food for both of us. This was up until they launched their new menu. I one fell swoop they have managed to cancel out what was a USP for them as a brand to concentrate more on the mainstream meat eater menu. This is very disappointing from our perspective and a real shame as the dishes were so simple and I can’t for the life of me understand why they felt the need to change it. Very disappointing much like their microwaved food!

“How do La Tasca continue to get away with it?”

★☆☆☆☆

written by pbrodger on 22/05/2012

We love Spanish food, and so were looking forward to La Tasca. Our first foray was to Canary Wharf a couple of years ago, where even basics like Tortilla and chorizo were very poor and barely edible. The experience was so bad in fact, that we complained via the website. We did, in fairness, get a call from the branch manager, who was apologetic but philosophical about the quality of the food "it's a chain, what can you expect?" was her attitude. She offered me vouchers which she suggested we spent on drinks as we clearly weren't interested in sampling any more food. Predictably the vouchers never arrived. Time is a great healer, so last week we tried the St Martin's Lane branch with equally disastrous results: the tapas were, almost without exception, woeful; the fried calamari for example was swimming in so much oil, the batter was falling off it. The surly staff couldn't care less – many of them were Spanish, so perhaps they were just embarrassed. Certainly the cheesy matador costumes they had to wear are a joke and would have demoralised me, for sure. If you have fond memories of eating great food in friendly restaurants in Spain, avoid La Tasca like the plague. You have been warned.

“Horrible experience!”

written by on 24/02/2012

We have chosen this restaurant as we really wanted to eat some tasty Spanish food...but we were wrong. We started with some tapas and I discovered you can buy the exact same thing from Tesco for 2£..which is probably what they do..put everything on a plate, olive oil on top..and that is it.. client served. Than we ordered paella for 3...absolutely disgusting.. we received a huge pan of horrible rice with a tomato sauce, 3 prawns and 6 mussels on top..the taste was awful. I will never go to that restaurant again and defintely won't advise anyone to go there ...better spend you money on something else.

“Rip off Paella”

★☆☆☆☆

written by anniebell2010 on 04/02/2012

We were a group of 9 celebrating a birthday. 6 of our party went for the party menu at 15.00 per head. The other 3 wanted the single paella at 9.95. The party meals came out well ahead of our meals. When the paella arrived, we were very dissappointed. Rather then the 3 single paellas we were expecting and had ordered. We got a pan of paella. When we questioned the waitress we were told it was paella for 3! This was outragous, yes there was enough rice for 3 BUT only 3 prawns and of the 6 mussels 2 were empty at £30 this was a rip off. The manager was called he qustioned if we had eaten paella here before - Not sure were that one was going? We offered to pay 20 not 30 which he agreed, then we tried it and discovered the distinct lack of anything other than rice. Actually not worth 20 at all. Gave up at this point. As they had no interest in pleasing their customers.

“Very poor”

★★☆☆☆

written by Paul25491 on 22/01/2012

Went with some friends and luckily we found it all amusing as service was poor and food felt mass market rather than fresh despite waiting a long tome for it. They forgot to bring some dishes and also twice brought the wrong drinks. No real atmosphere in there and place needs some serious investment. Not good

“Bad start to an 18th Birthday”

★☆☆☆☆

written by Nazzo on 17/10/2011

RUDE service. After two out of ten people failed to give ID (When they weren't even drinking) the waitress went to the manager, and he disgustingly approached the table and gathered our attention by clapping his hands and barking out 'NO ID NO DRINKS' It was really not needed. He even separated the table from those who weren't drinking Throughout the whole night he eyed us. Our drink glasses remained empty, not once did the waitress ask us if our meal was OK, or if we wanted more drinks, we had to get up and ask them. The food was slow, and not worth the money. Very small portions for what we got. It was a shame, many of the guests left with hungry stomachs, but luckily the cake we made saved the day.

“Really enjoyable”

★★★★☆

written by on 25/09/2011

The reviews on this site seem quite harsh. I had my first visit to La Tasca last week and I was very impressed. The staff were actually Spanish and very friendly. The restaurant had a nice atmosphere. As part of a group of 16 people I wasn't sure we'd have enough food but there was plenty for all and everyone went home very full. I would definitely recommend to a friend. The only possible downside could be the price, maybe not somewhere to visit often, or look out for any deals they may have on.

“Fantastic”

★★★★★

written by on 05/09/2011

I think the negative reviewers just don't like tapas. La Tasca is brilliant, it can be as cheap or expensive as you want it to be. Every wednesday and Sunday there is usually 6 tapas for £10.95.. had this and I was stuffed! I usually get four tapas, using their 2 for 1 vouchers, which are always available (google search it). The food is great and freshly prepared.

“I wish I'd read the reviews before booking. ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 10/04/2011

I wish I'd read the reviews before booking.

Atmosphere - lively and relaxed and I thought the decor was OK too.

Service - amateur at best. No organisation or allocation of staff to tables. No sign of a manager overseeing the "team" only one of whom appeared to be working.

Food - Out of a packet into the microwave or deep fat fryer. Bland, warm not hot and of the poorest quality. Of special note were the "Tiger Prawns". 6 of the smallest prawns that I have ever seen. Clearly not as described and one for the trade descriptions people. Portions of all dishes were small to miniscule. Fresh, vibrant tappas it wasn't.

Value for money - Ranks as low as I've experienced.

Recommend - I wouldn't recommend to an enemy let alone a friend

“My partner and I took our daughter here today and I...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by JTBUK on 06/03/2011

My partner and I took our daughter here today and I have to say the place is shambolic. We were using our Tastecard which took a 'tiny' bit of sting out the experience, in that we only had to pay for 50% of PART of our order. Drinks and everything we ordered that was not on the 'Tapas to Share' menu were charged at standard prices. The manager (I use this term very loosely indeed) showed us to our table and was very rude in how he quickly explained the terms of using a tastecard, in a voice loud enough to have been heard by people outside.

Our 3 drinks arrived 1 in a filthy glass, 1 in a chipped glass and the other seemed ok. We had the filthy glass replaced but the waiter overlooked bringing fresh ice and lemon too, I think he wanted us to use that from the filthy glass! Our food arrived and the garlic bread was worse than the packet stuff you can buy in supermarkets, it may have had a shoe print on it because it certainly looked and tasted as though it had been trodden on. Our food arrived and the portions looked like samples in a supermarket promotion. (whether this was because we were using a tastecard I'm not sure) Some of the dishes were only warm and none of it tasted very nice at all. It certainly didn't resemble Spanish tapas or represent Spanish cuisine very well at all. Maybe the slogan 'Spain is closer than you think' should read 'Our toilets are closer than you think'

The general professionalism and level of competence in the place was as bad as it gets. Badly managed unhappy staff led by a manger in his 40's with a huge chip on his shoulder. If I was a director of the company that owns the place and i walked in and witnessed the whole shabang, I would fire them all on the spot and start again from the ground up.

I shudder to think what the kitchen hygiene is like, given the state of the glasses, the food and the general attitude in there. The only thing I would say is that the customers gave it quite a nice atmosphere. If the food was cooked properly and with the correct ingredients then served by professionals as opposed to young kids who are still at University and earning extra money at weekends (at least that is how it comes across to us) then it could potentially be great place to dine.

We dine out frequently and we do very much appreciate a good dining experience, something which is getting harder to find in this day and age.

Would we return to La Tasca ever again? I think not is the answer there!!

“Wednesday, in La Tasca Leeds: ”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 21/11/2010

Wednesday, in La Tasca Leeds:
Awful! We were 3 mins late, which I apologised for. The Maitre d' pointed at our table (we were not escorted) and said he was running late anyway. to cut a long story you were very busy (but this should be expected with the amount of offers in place) and despite getting the attention of 3 waiters we did not have anyone take our drinks order until 7.50 (45 mins after arrival) we also ordered food. This arrived at 8.45. We jokingly asked the waiter if we could order our next dishes immediately to cut down on the wait and he stated "it may be an idea, theres a 45 minute wait in the kitchen". Given that we'd waited 1hr 40mins for the initial dish, we decided to do this. There were 4 diners so we ordered our next 3 dishes and began to eat. One of my friend's dishes was cold, so she got the waiters attention and he said he'd change this. He did, and shortly reappeared with a hot dish. As my friend dished this onto her plate she discovered a thick, short, white hair in the sauce.
We called over the Maitre d' who said "what do you want me to do, look in the kitchen?" we explained that we had not had a great experiance, and outlined our total issues (which he was previously aware of) and he argued back about the busyness and that we "should have gone to the bar initially". In a restaurant? What a joke.
Our meals were barely touched, and we stated we would not be paying for anything. As requested by the Maitre d' we provided our contact details.
I work in Leeds and have been to the restaurant quite regularly with colleagues and friends. I am deeply unhappy with the service and overall experiance. I doubt I shall dine here again! I understand the staff were busy but surely if you have several offers on there should be enough staff to cover this.
Some of the staff also need to consider basic training, as their manners and people skills leave a lot to be desired.

My partner and I chose the £12 for 2 lunch deal. Lets just say I would not even give this food to my dog. We had 5 selections of Tapas. Everything was heated in a microwave it was not done fresh. The worst of it was the so called Chorizos floating in red wine. The chorizos were inedible we both had a piece and quicly put this dish to the side i could not even swallow it. They were definately not spanish! The chicken and mushrooms were re-heated and luke warm though the taste wasnt too bad. We received the same salad that went out accidently to the people sitting next to us who also happened to receive 2 extra dishes from our order which they just gave to them and wrote off! The crispy squid was soggy squid from a packet at Asdas no doubt and microwaved! The chicken wings were days old and were hairy and a little green on the inside! Needless to say we left all the dishes on the table and decided to just leave the place, when paying we were not even asked how the meal was and they did not even use the till to get change! Sounds a bit dodgy to me..... This place is the absolute pits and as a food lover though not any kind of #Expert# this really demoralised my day so warning do not eat here please....

Chorizo in red wine (yes, floating), is typically Spanish, so it is authentic.

“Appalling food. A range of greasy deep fried items...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 06/11/2010

Appalling food. A range of greasy deep fried items covered in the same bland tomato sauce. Portion size was very small which added to the feeling of being ripped off. Along with the tapas we ordered a paella which was slightly less bland but more disgusting. The prawns in it had clearly been placed in frozen and despite being burnt on the outside, were barely defrosted on the inside. The one I ate tasted like the bottom of an old freezer and frankly I was concerned for my health.

Service was indifferent, the waiter slouched casually on the table opposite as he took our order and generally had an uninterested attitude. I can't say I blame him having to serve up that soulless slop.

I'm not a fan of themed restaurant chains but this is definitely the worst I have had to endure.

“Dissapointed is not the word!.... La Tasca has gone...”

written by on 06/09/2010

Dissapointed is not the word!.... La Tasca has gone 'down hill' big time. I used to eat here a lot - bringing family and friends to a nice social event, never again. It seems the prices have shot up, and the quality of the food diminished. Obviously the chain has lost the plot - thinking about profits rather than quality. The food was luke warm, and so was the salad! the chicken was tough and the service was average. Don't get me wrong, I don't like to be 'kiss arsed' by my waiter/waitress, however don't expect a great tip when you can't be bothered to clear the table properly. Plus to top it off, there's a wide screen TV, talk about stuggling with the identity of the place- if I wanted to go and watch the football with a load of screaming larger louts then i would have gone to wetherspoons.La Tasca - like a like a 1950's bunny girl running around trying to re-kindle your youth! You've lost it! get a rip and fire you're Marketing Manager!

written by on 05/08/2010

I went to la tasca, for what I thought was a good value for money lunch deal. I have to say I was shocked at the quality of food. None of it appears to be cooked fresh. In fact I am certain that all dishes are ordered in pre-prepared and bunged in a microwave to serve. Shocking! I've simply nothing good to say about the food. Mcdonalds offers better quality. The service was good however, but this probably has more to do with the fact that we were the only people in the restaurant at the time. Says alot!

“I am a big fan of tapas and have never been so...”

★☆☆☆☆

written by on 30/07/2010

I am a big fan of tapas and have never been so disappointed with a restaurant. This is the second time I have been to a La Tasca (it was not my choice to go again but an engagement that I couldn't avoid) and I had hoped that my first miserable experience was a one-off but unfortunately not. The food was bland, uninteresting and hugely overpriced for what we were presented with. I don't even know how it is possible to remove so much flavour from chorizo. The service was slow and we had to remind the staff several times that food or drinks that we ordered had not been received. This is the first time I have ever bothered to write a review but the whole experience was so awful that I feel it's only right to warn other people before they make the mistake of eating here.
