After 4 weeks my Tom Tom Go 510 just closed down and refused to come on. I took it to Halfords for test and they found the charger OK but the sat nav had no green light. It has gone back to Tom Tom. I subscribe to the safety cameras and am concerned that if they give me a new one the card will not be returned and I have only joined 3 weeks ago. Halfords reckon 10 days for return but I will not hold my breath!… Read Full Review

Tom Tom 510 connects to the satellite much more quickly than any other Sat Nav system I have tried. The voice is clear and the directions with common sense are accurate. With the larger screen it is easy to see directions. I have found the 510 to be excellent value for money and have recommended it to all my friends… Read Full Review

TomTom is very poor as far as I'm concerned - it's worth about £25 in its current state. If/when they develop it into a really usable application - which does what it says on the tin - it could be good… Read Full Review

I bought it as a present for my wife, and at first I thought she was doing something wrong. Then I used it... It randomly turns itself on and off, it gets stuck and tells you to turn around, and it tells you to take turnings that aren't there. I sent TomTom 7 emails, wrote 4 letters and called countless times. They have never answered the phone and they haven't replied to emails or letters. I took the TomTom Go 510 satellite navigation unit back to Comet, and it was returned for repair. I… Read Full Review

Overall excellent device. Got me out a tight spot in Wales, where we ended up in a maze with no signs. Friends got worried until I took the beauty out of my pocket. They still moaned so how come it doesn't work and all that until the signal kicked in. Then it took us out of the maze and onto the main road where we headed up home. Very good device, but I wish they would automatically upload all the latest maps and the speed cameras etc. Also, I wish they could have more voices, and more map… Read Full Review

I have only used my TomTom Go 510 5 times and this weekend I went away, it got me there no problem and I put it away in a safe place. When I went to go back home it didn't turn back on - I thought it was the battery but I had it charging all the way home, which was a 2 hour drive, not knowing how to get home and still nothing happening. I'm going to take it back to Tesco's to see what they say… Read Full Review

Thus far, since buying it for a few days and testing it out in pouring heavy rain today, it's a pretty nice little device. I don't feel lost now and will dare to explore more of TN as I'm new to this area.
We'll see the longevity of this product. Lots of people are complaining about their device not able to boot up again, but you can supposedly revive it by pressing on the reset button (I read somewhere) so people have been bringing their device back for nothing. Anyway, this is just a… Read Full Review

I bought this satnav from currys online a week before christmas 06 of which i thought was good value at £252.78. It is the first satnav that i have owned and was really a toss up between the tomtom 100 and the 510, i felt that the addition of the wider screen and speed cameras already loaded and the addition of a case of which appears to be extra on the 100? made it a worthwhile purchase over the 100, also i understand that on the new tomtom one the makers have incorporated the three internal… Read Full Review

Having first tried the Navman icn 530 I found the TomTom 510 to be much better for me in terms of routing and I also liked being able to put funny voices on it which made a few people laugh and kept me amused over long distances. I also like being able to customise the splash screens and make my own up which is very easy to do. It's not as compact as the Navman and the graphics aren't quite as good but the routing is better and it got me out of a traffic jam on the A14 today, giving me a good… Read Full Review

I am taking it back for a refund and I'm switching to the Garmin C330. It doesn't have as many options but overall the reviews are much better. I would not buy a TomTom again. They have a long way to go to make a proper working GPS… Read Full Review

Despite the blue tooth phone connection being too quiet, I am rather impressed with this TomTom Go 510 sat nav, it's easy to use, clear instructions, and it really does hold onto a satellite signal when in a tunnel. The touch screen is so simple to use and the colour display is great… Read Full Review

Tom Tom got me out of trouble the very next day I bought the Go 150 satellite navigation system. I had to make a detour to my journey, and I would have had to backtrack for miles. I just switched it on and told it where to go. It located me, and within minutes I was on my way. Even an accident didn't stop me. I just said find another way, and it DID!… Read Full Review

Windscreen docking station is a joke - takes me 4 or 5 attempts to dock the TomTom Go 510, then I have to rest the unit on the dash because the weight of it pulls the docking platform down as you drive along, until the screen eventually faces downwards! The next fault is that often the 510 just will not boot up! There is a reset button but you have to insert a needle into its so small (I only found out about this by reading this forum), it is marked on the diagram in the instruction book but… Read Full Review

TomTom, when it works, is fantastic. But when it doesn't, you find yourself alone. Very alone. Tom Tom's customer support is, without exception, one of the worst I have ever encountered. I have purchased 3 of the things in as many years, being assured that each upgrade would remedy the problems, it doesn't!!!
I am obviously not very quick on the uptake, but Tom Tom has cured me of that now. I will never buy another one of these expensive ornaments.
TomTom - fragile product, dreadful customer… Read Full Review

The TomTom Go 510 develops a fault where the screen freezes. The first unit we purchased was replaced as still under warranty, the second one developed the same fault after warranty had expired and yes we have to pay for the repair. (Does not reset!) Tomtom Go is aware of this fault but still sell the product. We have since purchased a Navman which is far better. I now have an expensive TomTom Go ornament collecting dust! Sooooperb...not!… Read Full Review

I used the Tomtom Go 510 but it stopped working, so I returned it and tried Navman but found that even though am scared the Tom Tom can stop working at anytime, I would still rather have it than the Navman. I returned the Navman after just 2 weeks and got the Tom Tom back.
It calculates routes fast and also an alternative route.
The battery last a while and the map is very wide and straight forward to follow but best of all is the user friendliness… Read Full Review

TomTom Go 510's product support e-mail facility has shut down and even following telephone assurances that I would receive an answer before I went on holiday (to Italy). This has not happened. On the other hand you can visit the same website and purchase as many accessories or plus services as you desire. Copyright protection is one thing, but complex, in-depth and ineffectual encryption is not what I (the long suffering customer) want to deal with… Read Full Review

For over three weeks I have tried to get support to respond to my problem of not being able to enter the letters on the right side of my touchscreen. Every time they tell me they will have to have someone at a higher level call me back but no-one ever does. I even went to the trouble of calling the Netherlands home office and got the same run around.
It appears if your touch screen stops working correctly you are just out of luck… Read Full Review
