After 4 weeks my Tom Tom Go 510 just closed down and refused to come on. I took it to Halfords for test and they found the charger OK but the sat nav had no green light. It has gone back to Tom Tom. I subscribe to the safety cameras and am concerned that if they give me a new one the card will not be returned and I have only joined 3 weeks ago. I bought it as a present for my wife, and at first I thought she was doing something wrong. Then I used it... It randomly turns itself on and off, it gets stuck and tells you to turn around, and it tells you to take turnings that aren't there. I sent TomTom 7 emails, wrote 4 letters and called countless times. They have never answered the phone and they haven't replied to emails or letters. Overall excellent device. Got me out a tight spot in Wales, where we ended up in a maze with no signs. Friends got worried until I took the beauty out of my pocket. They still moaned so how come it doesn't work and all that until the signal kicked in. Then it took us out of the maze and onto the main road where we headed up home. Thus far, since buying it for a few days and testing it out in pouring heavy rain today, it's a pretty nice little device. I don't feel lost now and will dare to explore more of TN as I'm new to this area.

We'll see the longevity of this product. Lots of people are complaining about their device not able to boot up again, but you can supposedly revive it by pressing on the reset button (I read somewhere) so people have been bringing their device back for nothing. Having first tried the Navman icn 530 I found the TomTom 510 to be much better for me in terms of routing and I also liked being able to put funny voices on it which made a few people laugh and kept me amused over long distances. I also like being able to customise the splash screens and make my own up which is very easy to do. There clearly seems to be few disgruntled people who have had units that didn't work properly. Although, it's worth remembering anything like the TomTom Go 510, which is produced on a mass scale will have the odd dodgy one.

I had this problem with mine day after i got it! re screen going blank and wasn't able to switch on/off, just needed the little hard to find (even after looking in instruction manual) reset button to be pressed, been fine ever since.

Windscreen docking station is a joke - takes me 4 or 5 attempts to dock the TomTom Go 510, then I have to rest the unit on the dash because the weight of it pulls the docking platform down as you drive along, until the screen eventually faces downwards! The next fault is that often the 510 just will not boot up! TomTom, when it works, is fantastic. But when it doesn't, you find yourself alone. Very alone. Tom Tom's customer support is, without exception, one of the worst I have ever encountered. I have purchased 3 of the things in as many years, being assured that each upgrade would remedy the problems, it doesn't!!!

I am obviously not very quick on the uptake, but Tom Tom has cured me of that now. I will never buy another one of these expensive ornaments.

The TomTom Go 510 develops a fault where the screen freezes. The first unit we purchased was replaced as still under warranty, the second one developed the same fault after warranty had expired and yes we have to pay for the repair. (Does not reset!) Tomtom Go is aware of this fault but still sell the product. We have since purchased a Navman which is far better. I now have an expensive TomTom Go ornament collecting dust! My own experiences are somewhat better. It seems to me that if users RTFM they may share with me the pleasure of a well operating unit. The screen mount holds firm if correctly used and fully locked on.

Same problem with the screen freezing for me too. Everything else is fine but when on long trips, if screen freezes, then you are doomed unless you have printed directions. Tom Tom people suck at customer service and this is such a wasteful option. I bought Navigon 7100 and love it.

I used the Tomtom Go 510 but it stopped working, so I returned it and tried Navman but found that even though am scared the Tom Tom can stop working at anytime, I would still rather have it than the Navman. I returned the Navman after just 2 weeks and got the Tom Tom back.
It calculates routes fast and also an alternative route.
The battery last a while and the map is very wide and straight forward to follow but best of all is the user friendliness… Read Full Review

For over three weeks I have tried to get support to respond to my problem of not being able to enter the letters on the right side of my touchscreen. Every time they tell me they will have to have someone at a higher level call me back but no-one ever does. I even went to the trouble of calling the Netherlands home office and got the same run around.

Tom Tom support finally called about a month after I first contacted them. They said my tomtom was out of warranty and they would not fix it but I could buy a new one for only $300. This is there answer when I can buy a new Garmin that has the whole us map in it for $347.00
