I'm not a VERY early adopter but am still somewhat amazed and disappointed to realize that I can now buy one of these for 1/3 what I paid only 9 months ago. Still, that's the march of technology, not Tomtom's fault I suppose. Some of the newest features like speech recognition are cool but I would rather upgrade to more current maps, a bigger screen and thinner/lighter unit overall. Also, why not make it water resistant - Magellan has a cheaper unit that is waterproof so it's not a cost... (read more)

I bought my 910 tax free for over £400, I have used it in Europe, and the US, and except for getting confused with freeway frontage roads (run parallel to freeways in some States), it is flawless. My recommendation would be to buy the most advanced model you think you might want to use, it is expensive and difficult to upgrade lower models, and some features cannot be retrofitted onto the lower end.

Very pleased with my TomTom. I've had mine for exactly a year now and it's always been extremely helpful in getting me where I want to go. Everyone always whinges on about getting sent down dirt tracks - I drive 35,000 miles a year and it's only sent me down one, which was very slightly unsuitable.
The map was up to date when I got it a year ago... in all my journeys, it's only missed off one roundabout (which was only built a few months ago) and tried to send me down a pedestrian route... (read more)

My Tom Tom Go 510 is awkward to attach/detach the screen, regularly fall's back off.
mine was replaced because it turned itself off quite often, but the new one does the same.
maps are out of date although mine is only a year old.
very bulky if you need to carry it about with you.
post code search is also not up to date.
touch screen is very sensitive you will need to use a tooth pick or something.
have been sent the wrong way into dead end,and instructed to cross non existent roundabouts. (read more)

post codes not up to date either.

bulky to carry about with you, if you don't want to leave it in your car.

The Tom Tom Go 510 is a useful tool when it works, but must be alert to inbuilt errors.

New to Sat Nav I thought it was Ok and indeed it does half a job OK. Don't even think of updating it or trying to contact customer support. They evidently couldn't care less about after sales service. (read more)

You can take my car but keep your hands off 'Jane'. She is my companion and we have long and dull conversations. I do not enjoy being told to "Turn around when possible" - I know what I am doing.
I rarely go out without Tom Tom. Time was that I enjoyed planning a route, I now trust 'Jane' to find the way for me, even though she once crashed leaving me not knowing where I was, having totally put my trust in the programme. (read more)

Abysmal after-sales service in my opinion from Tom Tom. Mine stopped charging and after contacting the helpline they promised to email me and send pre-paid packaging to return for repair. 3 weeks later I am still waiting after several visits to Makro where I purchased it an several abortive attempts by Makro on my behalf to contact the helpline, over a period of 48 hours. The Tom Tom GO 510 is reasonably easy to enter destinations, adjust volume controls, charge the internal battery and use unit 'on-charge' via the in car charging lead. Not sufficiently reliable with map reading and giving directions; it did understand the instruction to 'avoid motorways' and coped well with this: I am not confident the 'fastest route' was really 'fastest'. The speed camera facility was useful as the unit not only advised of approach to cameras but also gave the speed limit... (read more)

Just as a Tom Tom, all very easy to use, but got fed up with it dropping of the under-strength windscreen mount and curious round about routes along Italian dirt tracks and back alleys.
Home charger connection was loose.
Although the thing was brand new the European maps were badly out of date and eventually the screen went blank and the thing died after three weeks use leaving me stranded in the middle of Italy.
Not a reliable technology. (read more)

Ever so friendly support - you know they are really trying hard to help - but response is slow (I may have been unlucky because they were upgrading site) and the User Interface and Help support is - in my humble opinion - extremely poor for a maker with this status - I have been truly disappointed - perhaps I have a "lemon" of a unit? The initial automated responses are mostly useless. Will never buy one again - definitely will go for another make. (read more)

My Tom Tom Go 510 worked straight out of box, and my wife was annoyed at having to drive home whilst I set it up. Seems to be working OK so far but I've only had it a few days. Never had a sat nav before so unable to compare to anything apart from reviews. Tried to change the voice to one of these funny ones but that is hard work. Used for work and has got me to there. Good Birthday present and nice gadget. (read more)
