“Sneaky, underhanded, dishonest, just plain terrible”

We used to use opodo quite a lot for finding and booking long-haul flights at the lowest prices and had no issues. That was a good few years back and things have changed, big time! We recently booked a flight with them because the price was a little less than the price direct with the airline and the booking screens showed that it included 1 free bag per passenger while with the airline bags were extra. The advertised price would be the lowest by default and would be conditioned by the offer of a day. The relevant information on the applied offer could be found below every flight option.

Opodo has a transparent fees policy. Administration fees, which are collected in term of handling a request and issuing the ticket are calculated as per number of passengers and trips and would depend on the method of payment selected. Please note that you may adjust the price selecting a method of payment before starting a search.

In any case, we were deeply upset hearing of the incidence with luggage you have experienced on one of your flights and would be grateful if you indicate your booking reference in response to this message in order to check your booking and the status of your original complaint.

“Better to book direct with the airline”

I booked return flights from Manchester to Faro with Opodo as they offered the cheapest deal. I had just one case booked for the journey each way. Everything was fine for the outward flight, but when I came to check in for the return flight at Faro, Ryan Air said they had no record of my luggage booking. Yes, you did refund my luggage expenses promptly, which was good.

However your statement that my booking was affected by "some system failure" and that you followed the "correct procedure with regards to my booking" worries me even more. Clearly you have a problem either in your system or in your procedures and I hope that you can find a solution to avoid any more of your customers being inconvenienced.

“Avoid or be prepared to have a stressful booking...”

I had an absolute nightmare with this company. Did NOT realise that they would book my return flight in two separate transactions and the second one didn't go through properly so I ended up with a one-way ticket. When I emailed I got no response. That is an excuse you came up with after my bank noted the fraudelent activity due to you placing an extra charge that should not have been there. After that you were refused and I went yo Ryanair. Initially, my bank had no reason t refuse you and confirmed there were more than adequate funds. The fact of the matter is you messed up my booking and charged me for it then left me with a one way flight.

Please bear in mind that depending on the type of the method of payment you may have a pre-authorization charge.

Financial institutions often temporarily block the amount of available credit until the final charge is made, and later reverse the temporary charge. The client may temporarily see such duplicate charges, but one of them will automatically be reversed by the financial institution.
Amounts withheld in this manner will disappear automatically from the card statement within approximately one or two weeks.
Remember that such amounts are withheld by all travel agencies, and they are caused by the operations between financial institutions, the companies issuing debit and credit cards, and IATA. Travel agencies give the order to issue the ticket, but the payment collection processes are handled by the parties mentioned above.

However, we would not be able to check the payments history if the booking reference is not provided.

“Unacceptable experience”

Recently I tried making a booking online. The search engine issued a booking request for the wrong dates via e-mail , -2K2QNS,probably, due to a computer glitch. I immediately rang their call centre on the advised telephone number and after holding on for more than 1/2 hour was promised full refund but only after a supervisor was involved. We are able to inform you that all booking is issued with the exact information introduced during the booking flow, as entered directly into the reservation system.

As we could verify, Opodo cancelled your flight reservation removing the cancellation fee of 25 gbp per ticket, which is collected in such cases as a gesture of goodwill.

A full refund, except the agreed at time of booking administration fee, which remains non-refundable, was issued on 12th of September.

You already have the booking reference, I supplied it to you (Opodo) weeks ago, but to me it seems pointless you looking into my case now unless you are going to compensate me financially for your totally unacceptable service. You should have looked into my case "with care" about my luggage hold when I requested you to prior to my flights, which was weeks ago. I had to clarify everything about my luggage and flights direct with the airlines before I flew. I remain totally dis-satisfied and have no confidence that you would impartially look into my case now if you were not prepared to do so or capable of doing so weeks ago before I flew. What good will your comments be now?

The worst customer service centre I have ever experienced in my whole existence. I booked 2 One-way flights from Nice to Athens on the 20th April 2015 through Opodo UK and was sent a confirmation email. We rock up to the airport in August and they tell us we don’t have valid tickets! I call the customer service line waited 15 minutes before I could actually speak to a real person. I booked 15 flights throughout Europe in April 2015 for July / August travel. We had no problems what so ever NOR did we have to contact our bank either for "pre-authorisation" for any of those flights.

You guys are just appalling!

Our booking reference is 1340828626. I was told the first conversation with your customer service team that I would be reimbursed the full £396 within 24 hrs, that was a Monday, I phoned up on the following Friday to be told that only £290 would be refunded as the rest were booking fees and we would have to wait another 3 days. I phoned again the following week to be told that there was an error with your system and that's why the flight was not booked for me and that only on that last phone call had the refund been initiated and that I would have to wait another 7/14 days for a refund, to which I strongly opposed. I have since received the £290 refund. When it is your error not the customers you should reimburse the full amount and when you are unable to book the flight there certainly should not be booking fees when you haven't actually booked them. I had no problem booking the flight direct through Thomson which I will do in the future.

As we could verify, your booking is composed of two separate flights for the outbound and the return journey, which was correctly confirmed.

The was an issue on the outbound flight. A full refund was pushed with this regards on the 04th of September.

We will order a refund of the administration fee, since are fully aware of the inconveniences the whole case may have caused you. Unfortunately, the reservation system is still showing the flight as booked, when we have been already informed by the airline that our request has not delivered.

“Dubious trading practices by Opodo”

Opodo recently advertised a 15 euro discount voucher for flights (OP15EURO) on one of its many European website. As some flights cost only a few euros, I was able to make a booking for a Ryanair flight from Dortmund to London for 0.57€ (15.57€ for the flight - 15€ voucher). The voucher was accepted without problems during the booking process. All the way up to the final payment page, the Opodo website showed a total price of 0.57€ when paying by American Express. “Baggage Charges!”

Having booked flights through Opodo weeks before departure we found that they had failed to pay BA £20 (Opodo charge £33) for our single checkin bag. The confirmation came through within minutes with the wrong name as passenger, they had put me (as buyer) on the ticket instead of my daughter (passenger). Thanks for your response. I did not request a transfer to another person, just the correct person as booked. Opodo continue to refuse a refund and the customer service is just astounding. There is no reasonable engagement, just a refusal to correct an error from the Opodo booking system. This will sadly need to be settled in the small claims court. I cannot stress how much people should avoid doing business with Opodo.

I booked a last minute deal with Opodo for 2 adults and a child.. its for an august holiday but price was quite good for time of year and said it was avaialble It took me 14 calls to get through due to a representative answering but they could not hear me, if they could hear me and tried to transfer me it cut me off.. Can you please confirm call me to go through the passenger names. There are in consistences in the titles and names forwarded to the airlines from Opodo's system and also there is no confirmation on the luggage we booked and paid for.
