I have purchased a vacation package with Expedia Vacation Waiver option. It tells you 'You can change or cancel your trip for any reason prior to the scheduled start of your trip' . Even if you read a fine-print it gives a first impression that you can cancel or change your package without losing money. I booked a hotel in Lisbon for a trip which I had to later cancel. I cancelled my room and Expedia stated I would get a refund of £262 within 5-7 days. After 14 days and several e-mails I finally phoned them. A wonderfully unhelpful chappy dealt with my problem....all he would say was that the refund had been processed and would appear in my bank account 31st October (the phone call took place on 4th NOVEMBER)!!!

Rented a car with our Expedia Package. When we went to pick up the rental car in Cancun there was an additional $450 tacked on in addition to what we had already paid Expeida. We ended up not renting the car and hertz charged $800 to our credit card. Expedia was of no help. I have been on the phone with them for 2 hours and have been disconnected 4 times today. Be careful when you book a flight with this agency. If you buy paper tickets, make sure you book your flight at least a week in advance. Do not attempt to book or change a flight on the last minute and have it sent in an overnight delivery. I needed to change a flight because of an emergency and asked for an overnight delivery. They put a wrong address on the usps packet and I was only lucky to find that packet in a post office in the U.S. after a lot of phone calls. I had to make 9 phone calls… Read Full Review

You can book your flight on the internet at a fair price. Trying to change your ticket or have it sent to your place (with paper tickets) is a nightmare. My total cost of phone calls in dealing with them was 50 dollars. Their agents were robotic and try as much as they can do avoid responsibility for their mistakes. The no-refund policy might be that of the airline. Even if you book it directly with the airline, you still get the same no-refund policy. The rates and the policy come hand in hand. The fares with less restriction are those of higher class, say first or executive class. Even business class tickets are still non-refundable. The airline will only offer refund if they were the one who initiated the cancellation or the cancellation was due to force majeur. Death or even emergency in the family even does not warranty a refund.

Promotions on big websites are subject to availability, and is offered to all of their customers. It could be gone within a matter of minutes. The trouble with some customers, is that if they were not fast enough to grab the promotional offer, they might blame the website. Expedia is a reputable company, they wouldn't have grown that big if they were a scam. If the discount was that big a deal to you, one option would be to opt not to process the booking. Even if you already have put in your credit card information, the website will not automatically just take the information and charge you for the purchase without your consent.

No good points. Customer service offered me a refund on all the flights. As if! What do i tell my people, we have a room in Las Vegas but not flights!!

I don't recommend ever book on expedia.com. You know how you can pay extra to book a flight that you really want. Like getting home earlier. I booked an earlier flight and US Airways cancelled my flight --- I paid $600.00 to get home earlier from my vacation and they cancelled my flight and booked me on a later flight and kept the $600.00.

Where did you get the idea that expedia is more expensive than booking directly? Expedia and other travel booking sites purchase block of rooms in a hotel or seats from flights ahead of time so that they can sell it to their customers at a much lower price and regarding the cancellation penalties, it is not expedia's policy but that of the airlines. It is standard procedure to charge penalties for changes or cancellations. It is a business, and the airlines will never sell you tickets that you can cancel without any penalty unless you get some insurance or you fly first class.

Expedia was a nightmare to deal with. I booked a week's stay and paid in full -- and then was told my reservation had been lost. Also, the hotel was now booked up. I was passed from rep to rep, placed on hold at one point for 1 hour and 54 minutes (until I hung up). When I wrote them to ask for help they wrote back (unaware of the brutal irony of their form letters: "We are not able to expedite your request without having on the line with us."

I booked a studio room, non refundable and I understood that we couldn't get a bigger room without paying an upgrade price and we were fine with that. Expedia uses a distribution system connected to the hotel's server. What they were offering you at the time of booking is the current negotiated rate available in the hotel's server. Prices do fluctuate depending on supply and demand and changes could happen within a matter of minutes. That is why Expedia offers the best price guarantee, wherein if you find a more affordable price for the hotel within 24 hours after booking it, they will refund you the difference. If you bought say an airfare for $100 Tuesday and then comes Thursday the airline lowered the price to $50 because there are a lot more seats available on the flight, will you get a refund from the price you have first agreed to purchase it with? never.

You have to have a very good reason to be transferred to a manager. Your call is dealt with through a hierarchy depending on how much empowered (how much the rep is allowed access to the resolution steps/tools) the agent helping you is.
