I had booked 4 nights in a hotel with Expedia that looked nice on the website. Upon arrival I noticed there was no elevator and 2 large staircases just to get to the lobby. The room was moldy. Nearby trains sounded like they were coming through the room. The staff there was nice, but that's it. I left after one night. I booked a flight with them for Cancun and the airline was Mexicana. I had to cancel for personal issues and when I canceled I was never told about a $150 registration fee to book a flight all over again. In future I will only use Expedia for their pictures and other hotel info, but will never ever book thru them again. I have booked many hotels and the only time I ever have a problem is when I use Expedia!!! If you have any type of change be prepared to pay a hefty penalty up to 100% of your anticipated stay!!! In my experience the customer service is very lacking. They made me wait for 40 minutes for a supervisor to get on the line. They also tried to negotiate a deal with more coupons if I decided to pay a cancellation fee and then book again, but I would have to wait two to four weeks to get refunded. After 14 days and several e-mails I finally phoned them. Be careful when you book a flight with this agency. If you buy paper tickets, make sure you book your flight at least a week in advance. Do not attempt to book or change a flight on the last minute and have it sent in an overnight delivery. I needed to change a flight because of an emergency and asked for an overnight delivery. You can book your flight on the internet at a fair price. Trying to change your ticket or have it sent to your place (with paper tickets) is a nightmare. My total cost of phone calls in dealing with them was 50 dollars. Their agents were robotic and try as much as they can do avoid responsibility for their mistakes. The no-refund policy might be that of the airline. Even if you book it directly with the airline, you still get the same no-refund policy. The rates and the policy come hand in hand. The fares with less restriction are those of higher class, say first or executive class. Even business class tickets are still non-refundable. The airline will only offer refund if they were the one who initiated the cancellation or the cancellation was due to force majeur. Death or even emergency in the family even does not warranty a refund.

Promotions on big websites are subject to availability, and is offered to all of their customers. It could be gone within a matter of minutes. The trouble with some customers, is that if they were not fast enough to grab the promotional offer, they might blame the website. Expedia is a reputable company, they wouldn't have grown that big if they were a scam. If the discount was that big a deal to you, one option would be to opt not to process the booking. Even if you already have put in your credit card information, the website will not automatically just take the information and charge you for the purchase without your consent.
